Regional List advice needed

By Gutshot Gary, in X-Wing

First a little background (I promise it will be quick). I am fairly new to X-Wing with only a few 100 point games under my belt. I am not able to play nearly as much as I would like to (that is what being married with two little ones does for you). I love the game, and plan to play in a regional in a couple weeks. I am also signed up to play in both the warm up tournament, and the North American Championship tournament at Gen Con 2013. So what I am looking for are some ideas for easy to play squad lists that can be competitive without tons of experience. I figure swarms lists would be to hard for me to get good at flying in a short period of time.

Here are two variations on a Chewie list I was thinking about:

Chewie + Draw Their Fire + Millennium Falcon

Wedge + Swarm Tactics

Biggs

or

Chewie + Draw Their Fire + Gunner

Wedge + Swarm Tactics

Rookie Pilot

I am fine playing either Rebel or Imperial, and would like any advice on the above lists, or other recommendations. My collection consists of the following:

2 Core sets

1 X-Wing

1 Y-Wing

2 A-Wings

1 YT-1300

1 Tie Fighter

1 Tie Advance

2 Tie Interceptors

1 Firespray

Thanks!

2 lists that I've had some luck running:

Lando + Falcon + Nien Nunb

Biggs + R2-F2 + Stealth Device

Gold Squadron Pilot + Ion Cannon Turret

This one is probably the less skill intensive of the 2 lists. Your basic plan is to fly them in a tight formation around the edge of the board (I've written up a detailed description of how to get there here) and make your opponent come to you while you fire back with turret weapons. Biggs will start the game at agility 4 with a focus from Lando and still be agility 3 + focus after the first hit, significantly lengthening the life of your ships. Once he's gone, you still have a ton of hit points for your opponent to shoot through. The weakness is the extremely limited offensive output.

Vader + Engine Upgrade + Daredevil + Homing Missiles

Fel + Push The Limit

Phenir + Veteran Instincts

This list is a little harder to fly as you're relying on maneuvering well. It completely abuses the action economy as everyone gets 2 actions (and Fel effectively gets 3). Put that on top of everyone being pilot skill 9 (which makes Phenir's ability that much better) and you gain a significant information advantage. This list is great at maneuvering out of your opponent's ships' firing arcs, so it hates seeing YT-1300s on the other side. Luckily, it also has some pretty significant fire power and should focus fire to bring down turret weapons first so that you can avoid shots the rest of the game.

I like your first list better. Biggs is not at defensive as when you run him with Lando, but Chewie can protect him. With this list, your goal is to try and keep Wedge around so he can deal out a lot of damage. Biggs and Chewie can both protect him. I've had good success with this list. I would practice flying this list some sense your new to the game. There's a bit of a learning curve for flying a big ship with some little ones. If you haven't read these posts on flying I highly recommend that you do. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/87723/movement (Piqsid) wrote some great posts on flying. These will help your game a lot. Good luck at your regional.

Thanks to both of you.

mrfroggies, do you think it would be better to use Squad Leader on Wedge, or stick with Swarm Tactics?

If you want to play Wedge, you should find the points for PTL and the basic R2 unit.

What would you recommend? Replace Biggs with a Rookie to add PTL & R2 to Wedge?
