"Major Offensive" Card

By iceicebaby2, in Tide of Iron

Hi chaps!

I just wanted to clearify how this card has to be interpreted. It says something like "providing four aditional actions during action phase". Does this mean that you can for instance move four more squads (seven altogether)? Or is using this card considered as an action, so you may move only three additional squads?

Thanks for replies!

In essence you get 3 additional actions, as you have to use one to play the card. Very usefull with the surprise assault card.

You get 6 actions when it's all said and done because it costs an action to actually play the card. I was pretty confused by that myself until I started thinking about how the timing mechanics worked for action phases. It's a little misleading because it feels like it should say something like "3 actions, in addition to play this card" or something along those lines.

It's wicked powerful though. This card literally turned the tide during the Liberation scenario for the Americans in my last play. The Germans played a pretty aggressive setup with their mortar crews up front. Some pretty good rolls kept 2 stacks of Americans pinned down for the first two turns. By turn 3 the Americans were getting near the bridge, but were in the open during the second go-around in the action phase when the Germans played this bad boy. They brought up the half-track and a few other units and managed to keep the Americans from getting their reinforcements on Turn 4 by holding the bridge.

The Americans made it pretty close by getting 3 buildings, but the Command Point VP went to the Germans. I've played Liberation 3 or 4 times and I think it was the first time the Germans made it a close game. Normally the Americans get their reinforcements and pretty much just roll through that map by about turn 7 with turn 8 being largely a cleanup.
