I flew vader at an Y wing, after taking his shields off, he fired back and hit with his ion cannon. The next movement the y wing moved one forward and vader flew into him. Vader lost his action and took a hit from another ion cannon from a passing y wing. The next movement my openent asigned a one forward but said one forward meant both ships flew into each other. As vader did not have an action he could not barrel roll away. Is this correct?
Ships touching
I don't have the tokens in front of me but i believe the 1 movement template is the same length as a small ships base.
if you were flat front to flat front then you would pass over each other…just.
If you touching at an angle, then that angled distance would be greater than a 1 template so you would end up jammed together.
You're forgetting the little tabs on the bases,A one template is the length of the main square only. So the bases would overlap. And it's unlikely, unless it was a Vassal game that two ships would be perfectly aligned anyway.
yeah, two ships touching head-to-head would need a move 2 in order to move past.
Interesting note: The longest line across the base of a Large Ship from corner to corner is 2.82842712475 base lengths. So, if you're in base contact to a Large Ship, a Move 3 will carry you past its base regardless of relative vector.
I've been told on BGG that tabs don't count for collisions, but the beveled edge of the base bodies seem to make it slightly longer than a 1 template. Maybe that was a factor. Or perhaps there was a slight twist. This potential to be locked does pose a problem though, I think. Maybe a FAQ ruling is needed.
When challenged the BGGer retracted the."tabs don't count" argument; he'd confused the range rule where tabs cannot be used to determine distance for firing. He also, in his favour, went and checked the rules to make sure.

Good point, I did forget about those.
I did a quick check last night, and the front to back distance of a ship base is about 1mm longer than the 1 straight template anyway. Side to side is exactly the length of the 1 straight template though.
I thought they would have made them square, but there you go ![]()
Probably if they made the base exactly 1m long, then situations like the OP would be far more thorny to resolve. By requiring at least a move two, they ensure that if any movement happens, the ships are well clear of each other.
