Hey all
I played in a small, 8 person event today at Dave's Pop Culture in Ladner, BC.
I decided to play a list that I thought would be a bit more casual, as we had a number of newer players participating in the event.
I named my list "Fly Casual":
Outer Rim Smuggler
Outer Rim Smuggler
Gold Squadron Pilot - Ion Turret
Gold Squadron Pilot - Ion Turret
Total: 100 points
The Imperials were not well represented - we had only one Imperial player, and 7 Rebel players (myself included).
Round 1:
Han w/ Marksmanship
Wedge
Green Squadron Pilot w/ Push the Limit
I set up my ships in the middle of the board, and he largely did the same. I advanced somewhat cautiously. Once we engaged, I started using the Smugglers to block him up, while Ionizing Wedge. He didn't last long. I used the assorted ships to successively block up Han while putting fire into Wedge, forcing Han to split fire between the two Y-Wings. After Wedge went down, I started to do the same to the Falcon, destroying it within 1 of the board edge. At the end of the game, he had his A-Wing left and I had two badly damaged Y-Wings and both Smugglers still alive. The game came to its inevitible conclusion.
1 - 0
Round 2:
I don't remember exactly what he had for a list, but it involved Chewbacca, a Grey Squadron Pilot with an Ion Cannon, and a Gold Squadron Pilot with an Ion Cannon.
He advanced very cautiously, which allowed me to jam the board on his side of the table. The first ship I went to work on was the Grey Squadron Pilot, who I ioned into the mess in the middle. While this was going on, he put some serious damage into my lead Smuggler. I was eventually able to destroy the Grey Squadron Pilot (I had denied him actions for something like 3 consecutive turns). By the time his Gold Squadron Pilot went down, I had a badly damaged Y-Wing, another that narrowly avoided flying off the map, a healthy Smuggler, and a Smuggler with one damage left. I was able to ion Chewie one last time, and he couldn't stay on the board.
2 - 0
Round 3:
Han with Expose
Biggs with a Shield Upgrade
Rookie Pilot
I advanced aggresively into him, and jammed the centre of the board. After the second real round of fire, I had killed Biggs at the expense of an Outer Rim Smuggler. My other Smuggler and one of my Y-Wings dogged Han, while the other one kept ionizing the Rookie Pilot (by the end of the game, he was ionized through 4 turns in a row). I broke off pursuit of the Rookie so that I could deal with Han, and ultimately was able to kill him after he finished off one of my Y-Wings. That left his Rookie (with 1 damage left) against a badly damaged Y (2 damage left), and the last Outer Rim Smuggler (undamaged). My Y-Wing finally killed his Rookie.
3 - 0
Over the course of the day, the list was surprisingly effective. Using the Outer Rim Smugglers to jam the enemy side over consecutive turns (each would jam once) meant that a lot of the damaging actions that my opponents wanted to take had very little impact on the game. Having 36 damage to chew through also helped a lot.
The list was very interesting to play after playing with 3 Interceptors and a TIE fighter (all with push the limit) for so long. Having 3 times the health and the 360 degree arcs was quite entertaining.
I got the sense that everyone had a good time at the event - thanks to Dave's Pop Culture for hosting!
