So with tournaments like regionals and such, what is prize support like? Cash? Rewards? Exclusives? I'm interested in playing a bit competively and I'm curious.
question about organized play.
scuse me while i lol
Winner gets a trophy. Beyond that, the best you're going to get is play mat and/or house cards.
eh that's about what i was expecting. used to play street fighter competitively and they were big on cash prizes, but those were all put together by the community members themselves.
The current support for Organized Play in North America is limited to;
Games Night Kits (Alternate Art cards, Power tokens/playmats/boxes)
Regional Kits (House cards, admission to worlds, and more things like the games night kits)
And then the big championship wins; winning Melee/Joust at Gencon or Stahleck, and winning overall at Worlds allows you to work with the designers to design an upcoming card, in which you appear in the artwork.
The support in the big European tournaments appears to be much better, and largely community driven (although I don't know all the details); I do know that there are prizes for the top deck in each house, the sansa players, the new players, the winners, the biggest comeback… the list goes on. I also know that the winners get their travel to Worlds paid for, which is not inconsiderable.
Well since no one else has, I'll post the official Regional prize support!
- 1 Regional Champion 2013 trophy (bottom right)
- 1 World Championship Weekend ticket (business card at bottom right I think)
- 2 Engraved granite house cards (bottom right, to the left of the trophy)
- 8 Full-color A Game of Thrones: The Card Game playmats (The Hound is ugly, check.)
- 16 sets of 6 double-sided Regionals exclusive House cards (96 cards total) (bottom left)
- 1 “Sansa prize” - Playmat or deck box from the FFG archives for the last place player (I imagine it's the core set playmat)
- A large 5’ x 2’ ‘Regional Championship 2013’ banner to be displayed at the venue (not shown, probably not a prize)
Then it's just a matter of whether or not the store got a kit and how they intend to distribute it.
