Stealth Device vs Assault Missile

By Patriarch, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello all, this came up in a game yesterday.

A TIE in a group was hit by an assault missle. All the nearby TIES lost a point of damage due to the range 1 "splash".

One of the neighbouring ships had a Stealth Device. Should the Stealth Device be removed since the ship had taken splash damage, or was the neighbour not "attacked"?

The Stealth Device is not removed by the splash damage from Assault Missile. Other things that do damage but are not considered being "hit" and thus do not remove Stealth Device include asteroids and bombs. It's also possible for a ship to be hit and lose stealth device but not take any damage if a nearby ship has Draw Their Fire. Basically, "hit" means any time the ship was the target of the attack and there was at least one [hit] or [crit] result rolled by the attacker that was not canceled by the defender.

The bottom line it's that there hasn't been a ruling yet. If you look up past threads there is a good one on stealth shoes. Look it up.

Actually the bottom line is that there doesn't need to be a ruling because being "hit by an attack" (which is the condition for removal of the Stealth Device) is quite well defined on page 12 of the rulebook, and the "splash" damage from an Assault Missiles attack does not meet that condition.

I did not find any reference to "stealth shoes" when I tried to look it up.

the search function is objectively horrible; it's usually easier to google the terms you're looking for and add "site:www.fantasyflightgames.com" to the search box. But, even at that, I couldn't find "stealth shoes."

Thanks very much for the feedback chaps - and the Team Covenant link…my evening disappeared once I started looking around that site.

In the event we ruled it as suggested, that my Stealth Device remained intact. It didn't make much difference as he proceeded to wipe the floor with me.

Sounds like you probably already have, but I highly recommend reading through Buhallin's blog on Team Covenant. It will help answer most of the common rules questions that come up.
