That's right, it's tales game licence suggestion time again!
ok, before the obligatory hate posts come flying in, let me just say that, having just finished the main game of tales of legendia, I actualy have semi-decent reasoning this time!
First of all, the obvious first choice from this series is clearly tales of symphonia. don't get me wrong, after playing ToL, I understand that almost any other tales game would add more to UFS gameplay-wise but ToS is the most well known tales game and for first choice this is very important. with knight of ratatosk/dawn of the new world (hereafter known as KoR by real fans) out recently (or soonish in the case of europe (**** you atari!)) interest in the game is likely to be at an all time high. even some soul calibur fans will recognize Lloyd!
While ToS has the largest fanbase of any tales game (outside of japan), I'm perfectly willing to admit that, if shear size is what you're going for, it dwindles in comparison to street fighter, soul calibur, teken, king of fighters and maybe even darkstalkers but what fanbase it does have is the most obsessive I've ever seen! there are those like me who won't import unless it's totaly safe and will only import from america but there are others who import Xbox360s and learn japanese just to play 1 game which is aparently coming to america anyway! and as for those who don't know japanese, a large quantity of them will still import the games and go all the way through with translated scripts off the internet.
While I don't know that much about what makes a good card game, I know first hand what an obsessive fanbase does for one!
That's enough about symphonia as the only thing it realy adds which other tales games don't is a heavily good aligned main villain.
as for what the others add:
ToL brings weight matters throws and a major height/attack zone matters theme, not to mention the stunning abilitys that aid the throws and of course, the magic keyword that near any RPG would add.
Tales of the Abyss brings shared resourse symbols matter and other opponents stats matter abilities, aswell as deck order manipulation (both you and your opponent).
While it's more subtle in Tales of Phantasia, the weight matters is still there in the form of items which make you lighter or heavier, Arche's immunity to throws/weight based attacks and the tractor beam spell (damage based on weight). The time travel theme probably wouldn't work here though.
Tales of Destiny and destiny 2 (not to be confused with eternia, even though I am) are not games I know enough about to comment on. nor are rebirth or vesperia.
Tales of Fandom and the Tales of the World series don't offer anything new as they just take characters (and therfore story and moves) from other games and the lack of english releases wouldn't help them either.
Tales of the Tempest wasn't liked by anyone, to the extent that namco is trying their utmost to forget about it (or so it seems) so that's avoidable but the rest should keep it going some time as is.
With various namco games already in UFS, I don't see tales as a hard licence to aquire but I could be wrong on that.
I expect people to hate me for this but I cannot just sit by and leave it unsaid and after all, being made by the people who make soul calibur, is there any better RPG for UFS.
I'm sure I had more reasons but it's late and I'm tired so they'll have to wait till I can remember them.
please don't be too harsh on me.
