Another question about range and arc

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing Rules Questions

My apologizes for another post, but I am just trying to get a better perspective on this. If there is a ship that is in my firing arc but the closest point to my ship is outside my firing arc do I go by the range distance of the point out side my arc. Or do I go by the closest point that falls withing my firing arc? I am only asking because you may have a ship that is within the firing arc that the closest point to your ship is range 2, but falls outside the arc. Yet the cloest point inside the arc is range 3. Which do you use?

Again I am sorry for posting about this again I just want to make sure I am doing this correct. Also thank you for any relpies that are helpful.

When measuring distance you only measure withing your firing arc, so the closest point of the enemy's ship is irrelevant. The only part that matters is the closest part of the enemy's ship that is within your firing arc. Reread "Range" on page 10:

"To measure range, place the Range 1 end of the
range ruler so that it touches the closest part
of the attacker’s base. Then point the ruler toward
the closest part of the target ship’s base that is
inside the attacker’s firing arc "

So short version of what you said is……you measure range from the closest point of your ship to the closest point of the targetted ship that falls within your ships firing arc only.

Exactly! You can just ignore the part of the enemy's ship that is outside your arc :)

Thank you Capn'!
