Help: Is Green Squadron in fact red?

By ForceM, in X-Wing

Hi guys,

I do have kind of a hobby question. I sometimes repaint details or whole X-Wing models. For example i modified one of my YT-1300 and added blood stripe markings to my Tie Interceptors, to represent Soontir Fel's 181st.

Now i did some research about A-Wings. I found out that Crynyd and Celchu both were part of Green Squadron, and that Celchu flew A-Wings only during this battle anyway pretty much. So i thought: Well if we have Green Squadron for 3 out of 4 ships existing anyway, may as well paint my A-Wings green!

But then i watch Arvels card and Tychos and they fly red painted fighters. On the Green squadron card i can't see any color at all… In the movie or any videogame i saw, you can't see a color either.

So was Green Squadron flying in red A-Wings in fact? Could also be that Green, Gold, Red are just mere callsigns and not the actual color of the squadron. In that case i'll just leave them as they are…

So does anyone have an answer or a picture showing this clearly please?

All A-wings in ROTJ have the basic red paint job. However, the uniforms that the pilots wore had green trimming. That being said, I think you should do whatever you like.

I repainted my A-wings green for just that reason, and so they would be somwhat unique. Almost all the art you see of the A-wing shows them with that rusty red color.

I did some further research and found it was because they could not make them green because of the green screen technology they used, so they couldn't put green objects in…

Well in that case, i'll just have to make up my mind if i go "non-canon" and will still make them green to make name and color fit, and just for the likes of it…

That is also what happened with the "prototype" being blue during the storyboard phase, but it wouldnt show up on the blue/green screen.

Here's a link to the ones I did. I've touched them up a bit more since then, adding a few details to each to make them distinct from each other, but I really like how the green turned out.

So you repainted then as a whole i suppose? I like it but the sides look a little too "clean" white or bright grey to me (or is that just the flash from the camera?). That's why i will leave the sides as they are, or else i would have to spend hours with mixing the right colors to give it an appropriate star wars "dirty look"

Watered down black ink; would take you almost no time at all…

Must be the flash. I left the sides alone, except for a few panels here and there.
