BTW…. Great news regarding the food for the event. I have just gotten of the phone with Chef Trevor Mcgrath and he has agreed to be part of The King In The North Tourney. He is a great Chef from Chicago, was also on Hells Kitchen session 6. He finished third place on the show.
So who are we feeding???
First off, can you outline what you're current thinking for the tourney is? What I've heard so far is.
Invitational Bracket - 10 players invited. 4 - 7 Swiss Rounds (Single or Best of 3 depending on attendance) to decide top 4/2/1.
Open Bracket - No player limit. Single game, 4 - 8 Swiss rounds to decide top 4/2/1.
Playoff Bracket
Round 1:
Game 1: Closed Seed 1 vs. Open Seed 4
Game 2: Closed Seed 2 vs. Open Seed 3
Game 3: Closed Seed 3 vs. Open Seed 2
Game 4: Closed Seed 4 vs. Open Seed 1
Round 2:
Game 1: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 4
Game 2: Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3
Final:
Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2
Also, you may want to consider adding Twn2Dn to your invitational. He was third place overall at Gencon and the DC Martell archetype was based on a deck he originally created specifically to play in our local NYC melees (or so I'm told). I don't know if he'd be able to attend, but other than that I don't know really know anyone in the greater AGoT community.
Additionally, you probably want to invite more to the Invitational Bracket. You need to ensure that you get enough players to conduct the closed bracket. I like the idea of each meta nominating someone and maybe polling the AGoT community on how to prioritize selection of nominated players for inclusion in the closed bracket. You could just invite regional winners, too. That'd be easy.
Yes, that would work. Sounds like a really good setup for the tourney. I definitely am considering Twn2Dn / Dan to be invited to the tourney. I am, however, a bit offended by his post about an NYC charity tourney. I'm obviously not against another tourney for charity I just don't get why he needed to post to this thread as opposed to starting a new topic. Kinda sounds like a movie plot where one character takes another character's idea like it was his own.
In answer to dcdennis, I will tentatively set the date as October 4 and 5, which is the first Friday and Saturday of the month. The best location I can think of is Warriors 3 in Wayne, MI. It is a big space with plenty of room for both tourneys and the owners are really cool , easy-going guys who are committed to AGOT. There is tons of other stuff in the area as well, ie food, entertainment, etc. And, to mention again, the event will be catered by Chef Trevor McGrath from Hell's Kitchen.
