Hello everyone,

I just picked up TI3 yesterday and will be playing the game for the first time with my group later tonight. I have a question regarding the Public Objective cards that say things like "I now spend 10 resources" or "I now spend 20 Trade Goods."

My question is, in order to claim these objectives, do I need to simply show to everyone that I am able to spend the required amount of resources, or must I actually spend the amount of resources on something and then be able to qualify for the objective?

If it's the latter, I have a followup question.

You must spend the required resources on the objective itself to fulfill it at the time you claim it. Simply being able to spend the resources does not meet the requirements, nor does spending (or having spent) the resources on something else.

Such objectives are worded as "I now spend…" to indicate this.

Generally, TI3 is very specific about the wording it uses.

Ok, now for my followup question: So if the situation was as like this: lets say I can spend 10 resources on something, but maybe due to fleet size or some other situation like already having the maximum number of a certain ship on the board forces me to actually use 9 of those resources on something and that 10th resource point fizzles, can I still claim the objective or do all 10 resource points have to go into something tangeable?

You don't spend the resources on anything but actually claiming the objectives. Essentially, you are purchasing the victory point. You do not recieve ships or anything else.
