Luke
Shield Upgrade
R2-D2
Vader
Engine Upgrade
Daredevil
I got together with some old friends and it was a great night. When we were kids we used to play space hulk sometimes when hanging out, even though we'd rarely finish a game unless we were up at a cottage and could leave the set up overnight or just have endless days to get games done.
Being Star Wars fans I knew X-Wing would be a hit with them.
There were four of us. One friend I have played with a few times but I felt the two novices needed a demo game to get a feel for X-wing. Everyone was against it at first, "let's just play… sheesh… c'mon." But I was adamant and it really helped when we all played a larger 2 vs 2 battle.
I used the list above for the demo. Vader has a little more to follow than Luke (2 actions plus boost and daredevil can be a lot to wrap your head around) but in the end the demo went very well.
Both ships can't be one shotted, both are familiar to any fan, there is only 1 ship per side to worry about, it shows the Imperials have high evade with less attack and asteroids were used to let the players know the importance of maneuvering well. Sometimes bad moves were redone and the power of what Vader could do was demonstrated "look if you boost then daredevil… see if you barrel roll then boost…" After a few turns the guys picked it up no problem. I highly recommend this as a demo game.
The rest of the night was a blast. It was like we reverted to being kids again, laughing the whole time. When we were done I asked if this game was more fun than Space Hulk and received a resounding yes. Such a good game, thanks FFG!

welcome to the addiction
im sure other x-wing players r coming up with options for team play like…
4 players. 50 points each player. free for all or teams (might depend on shops available). hmm what would i play if i was going 50pts squad?
probably a suped up vader or firespray or two intercepters for imperials
two x-wings or x-wing/y-wing or the falcon
it would also be fun to bend the rules for name pilots and play two or of the same on the same squad… two howlrunners? vaders? wedges? ouch. fun times.
