Proton Bomb - speculation

By tie571, in X-Wing Rules Questions

On the "Support Ships and System Upgrades" page (it announced the Wave 3 ships).

In the TIE Bomber write up:

"Each TIE bomber is capable of carrying two torpedoes, two missiles, and one bomb. Accordingly, the expansion’s five upgrade cards present you with a wide array of armaments, including the punishing Proton Bombs, which deal one faceup damage card to each ship within Range 1 when they detonate, even bypassing any shields the ship might have . We'll present more on these exciting new options in a future preview, so be sure to check back often!"

I was discussing the Proton Bomb with a friend and we were thinking of ships that have shields.

Would the Proton Bomb destroy a ship that has shields if the face up card was the 2 damage card or if a ship was hit with multiple Proton Bombs aganist the hull ? Assuming the ship hit with the Proton Bomb was the A-Wing or TIE Advanced (both have two shields and two hull)

Is a shielded ship destroyed when the shields and hull are zero or when the hull is zero ?

Thanks

Ships are destroyed when they have damage cards equal to their hull value, so they could be destroyed even with shields remaining.

That is correct. Also a possibility would be the console fire card if the player never took an action to put it out.

And the tie advance has 3 hull unless there's errata I missed.
