Broken builds

By Werewolf_nr, in Only War

Now that Hammer of the Emperor is out and we've all (hopefully) had a chance to flip through it, what broken builds have you guys spotted? Specifically, I am referring to unforseen combinations of Specialties and Advanced Specialties.

I'll start with the one that jumped out at me (due to my medicae character).

"Everyone Gets a Personal Medic" 3400-4200 xp

Start with Medic and focus on the Medicae skill and your two comrade advances.

Advance to Commander

Take Born Leader as once for each other party member, Back Them Up! is also useful.

Now you've got lots and lots of Comrades, all of whom can be your proxy medic or give tons of bonuses to Extended care tests. If you include Back Them Up!, those comrades should always be near an ally should they need your expertise.

1. High XP cost to make it work.
2. Extremely narrow focus
3. Reliance on comrades which are easily killed
4. Characters can only benefit from first aid once every 24 hours.
5. A heavy weapon is still extremely likely to kill you in a single hit.

Conclusion: Not broken.

With how deadly the system can be and how much they've learned from previous system mistakes it's extremely hard to really break the system. Until I see ascension level brokeness I won't really be all that impressed.

The Pyromancer/Imperial Psyker is terribly broken as it easily outshines most characters.

At 5.000xp a Willpower of 55 to 60 is not out of the question nor is a Psy Rating of 4 or 5.
So lets assume the WP 60 and Psy Rating 5 scenario with Psy Focus.

Sunburst/Pushing
Focus: WP +0

So the he has to roll beneath 110 and hits once per DoS.
On average that is 6 DoS dealing 6 times 1d10+18 E, Pen 0, Flame

It is not a vehicle killer but any form of infantry is toast…2 to 3 Chaos Space marines, per round.

Yes, Perils of the Warp are a risk but can be mitigated with talents.

So in any campaign I have decided to disallow Psykers and walking Tanks….techpriests…
