Core + YT-1300, what's next?

By USP45, in X-Wing

We just purchased (and love it so far!) the Core set and a YT-1300 (just because we like the model). Next up should be some Imperials to balance things out. I guess it's pretty much a points thing at this point yeah?

For example we should get something that gets the Imperials close to Luke+Falcon point level, but the points values aren't published anywhere are they?

I like the idea of another Tie Fighter or two (for example Interceptor or Advanced) but without knowing the point values it's a guess.

I guess the real answer to this question based on reading some of the other posts is really "Whatever's available." :-)

Here you go. Point values, what comes in each set, and all available art including what is coming in wave 3.

As far as what I would get next, depends on what you want to play. I have a total of 6 Tie fighters, 2 interceptors, 1 firespray, 1 tie advanced. Rebels, 4 x-wings, 2 A-wings, 1 YT-1300, and 2 Y-Wings. YMMV

Buy another Core Set, an X-Wing, a Tie Fighter, and a Tie Advanced. The extra core set will get you two more Ties, a second X-Wing, and the all-but-essential extra set of dice.

The X-Wing and Tie Fighter expansions will get you the pilots and cards that don't come in the Core Set, allowing you to better take advantage of what you already own. The Tie Advanced gets you Darth Vader, who is pretty solid.

Awesome; thanks folks!

I bought two everything, except the large ships. I wasn't able to get another X-Wing expansion (they are sold out everywhere) and have picked up a third of both the Interceptor and A-Wing so my fleets are looking like this:
1 YT-1300
3 X-Wing
3 A-Wing
2 Y-Wings
1 Firespray
6 TIE
3 Interceptors
2 TIE Advanced
I will echo the sentiment of buying 2 starter sets. Its the most bang for your buck and you get extra dice, rulers etc.

There are a few things you should definately get first. X-wings and TIE fighters ar IMO the core fightes of the game (I actually like that the expansions didn't change that) You will really want a few of each. After that, short of buying everything, buy what is cool to you. I have always been a big fan of the A-wings and TIE Interceptors, so I wanted 3 of each. What do your want to get next. Do you love the Fire-Spay, or maybey you have a deep and abiding love for the Y-wing.

Now, I can help but wonder if you are asking what ships would be good to get becasue they are good in the game. Well you are in luck, IMO all of them are good in the game. I don't have any ships that I just don't think are worth it. I will say this though, I personally don't like fielding, Y-wings, TIE Advanced and YT-1300 in large numbers. I use them all the time. I love all those ships, but I have 3 TIE advanced. (I do not regret buying them) But I rarely field that many. I usually only use 1 TIE advanced (and that is usually VADER)

I often field 2 Y-wings, and I don't agtree with people that say that they are worthless. I have seen all Y-wing lists do very well, but I myself haven't done well with more than 2. YT-1300 is my favorite ship. I love that Han+Luke(as crew) is one of the best builds in the game, cuz I like them. But I don't really care for the Outer-Rim Smugler, and I think taking more than one named YT-1300 is just too many points for my taist.

To sum up. One of the great things about this game is the versitiility of good builds. This is partly, IMO, do to the fact that how you play your squadron has more effect on winning and loosing, than it might in other games, so finding the perfect build is less important. But the game is pretty well balanced.

If you don't have the money or inclination to buy everything you can just buy the stuff you want most and do pretty well with it no matter what that is.

One way you could try to save money is to pick the Empire or Rebellion and focus on getting those ships first.

A-Wings cos they just look so cool and dinky! They're also scary, with the speed and missiles, as are Tie Interceptors, so if you want Imperial things I'd go for those. Vader (Tie Advance) with an engine upgrade is fun, so maybe one of those - the Falcon comes with engine upgrade doesn't it so you'll have one?

as already stated here its worth getting a 2nd core set. this gives u a base of 2 x-wings and 4 tie fighters. from there id recomment two expansions of each of x-wing, tie fighter, tie intercepter. frpom there depensing on your individual preference id grab one of each: A-wing, tie-advanced and y-wing (i personallly own 2 of each but dont get to play them both in the same squad much, might just be my preferred squad prefernces). i also own 3 tie intercepters and that seems about right as occaionally i get to play all 3 but more likely just two in the same squad.

i guess my advaice would be to pace yourself as there will be some wave3 ships u will want soon as well. go easy. buy what u think u will play first, instead of going for 2-3 of everything.

here is my collection…

2x core sets

2x tie-fighter expansion

2x Y-wing expansion (never played two in same build but i might when the new wave3 expansions/upgrades arrive… rumours of a new turret weapon)

2x tie-advanced expansion (just starting to consider builds that use two of these, the new missiles from wave2 made these slightly better)

2x X-Wing expansion

3x tie-intercepter expansion

2x A-Wing expansion (dont play them much but good for the upgrades eg. Push The Limit)

2x falcon

2x Firespray

… each new expansion gives u more name pilots and a few generic ones too. buy what u think u will need.

When Wave 1 hit I ended up purchasing 2 of everything except for TIE Fighters, which I bought 4 of. This gave me enough of a variety of ships to run pretty much any list I wanted to. As for Wave 2 I purchased 2 of each big ship and 4 of each of the fighters. Again this gave me a nice variety of ships and, more importantly, enough upgrade and missle cards to field almost any list I want to. As for Wave 3 I know I'll be purchasing at least 1 of each ship and possibly more depending on the upgrade cards in each ship.
