A few questions from a newbie

By Darik, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi Folks,

I just tried this game out with a buddy last night and we love, LOVE it! I'm not even a Game of Thrones fan but I picked up the first book (Which, is just called a Game of Thrones actually…while the series is called A Song of Ice and Fire…interesting) and we are jumping in with both feet.

But I do have a few questions:

1. If a character is "immune to opponents' character abilities" like Renly Baratheon, does that mean I cannot choose Renly to die as a result of my opponent's "Deadly" character being involved in a challenge where I have no "Deadly" characters of my own? The example here is, my Targaryen opponent declared a military challenge against my Baratheon crew using his Warlock's Servitors. I defended with Renly Baratheon and Richard Baratheon. The Baratheon guys successfully defended, but because Warlock's Servitors has "Deadly" I have to kill one of my characters involved in the challenge. I don't want to kill Robert but I think I have to because since Renly is "Immune" to "Deadly" - I cannot choose him, correct?

2. The attachment Lightbringer has Vigilant. Does this mean I can stand Lightbringer when I win a Challenge or does it mean I can stand the character to whom Lightbringer is attached when I win a Challenge? I can see why I would want to be able to stand Lightbringer (so I can use it to save the attached character from death again that turn, etc.) but I just want to make sure. Vigilant seems like a powerful keyword for Baratheon to get!

Thanks in advance,

Hello ! Have fun reading and playing.

  1. Keywords, like Deadly and Stealth, are not character abilities. So Renly can still be chosen as the target for Deadly. What he is immune to is effects like Core Set Robb Stark's response or Core Set Cersei Lannister's dominance ability. Note that in the various chapters and expansions, other versions of unique characters exist, so it's always good to specify which one you're referring to.
  2. Since Vigilant is on the attachment, it's the attachment you can stand after winning a challenge (as the attacker). If it was meant to be the character, the attachment would read "Attached character gains Vigilant."

You're welcome.
