worth stepping in at this point

By Banemus, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Is it worth buying the core set at this point?

Because i am a bit afraid that suddenly they start a new wfrp edition or the star wars rpg takes away the focus from wfrp.

Absolutely! There is plenty of stuff out for 3e. Star Wars has already taken the limited spot light that Wfrp 3e ever had. Wfrp has always had a limited group of players. Everyone on the forum will give their own opinion on what to start with, all of them valid but coming from different view points.

If you plan to use published adventures, for a group of 3-4 PC's, I would recommend, Core Box, Players toolkit, Gathering storm. By the time you are finished with this you will have a good idea of what you want to add.

If you plan to write your own adventures, I would recomend, Core Box, Players toolkit, Creature Vault. Then expand from their.

I dont want to suggest that you must have the above items to start. If you have 3 PC's and yourself as GM, you will be fine with just the core box.

Hope this helps.

Now is an excellent time to get in. Stuff is easy to find nd the line is primarily completed in its main run cycle. As the licensee has indicated they are reissuing the original dice in quarter three, it is evident that we won't be fleeced with a new edition just yet, so no worries there either.

Oh, and for starters, the CORE boxed set, players GUIDE (pdf or hardcover), and The Gathering Storm scenario are an excellent start to get the hang of the game.

Welcome to the crew!

Yes, this would be a great time to start as most content has been released. When our group started playing there was no priest box for example, and that felt limiting for our priest player. Same goes for magic and so on. All in all, the game is quite complete and you have access to rules for most major parts which "should" be there in a warhammer game, such as corruption/mutations, disease, insanities, halflings, wizards and priests.

I'd advice you to start with the Core box and as Emirikol said, the Players Guide (hardcover or PDF). The adventurers toolkit is also nice to have. Then you can expand depending on what you and the players want/need. Just ask in or search this forum and you'll get plenty of "what should I buy next"-tips.

Have a great day!

Hmm everyone is saying 3-4 players. What about 2 players and 1 gm ? Or is this game specifically build for 3+ players?

2 players works fine, I think everyone is just listing the limits presented in the core box. The core box covers 1 GM, and up to 3 players, with the only real limiting factor being the 8 basic action cards. The core box come with 24 basic action cards, 8 for each of the 3 players.

Melee strike x3

Ranged attack x3

block x3

parry, x3

dodge x3

assess the situation x3

perform a stunt x 3

Lol sorry but I can't remember the 8th card off of the top of my head but there are 3 of them also :-)

To be honest I have begun copying the basic action cards and placing the photo copies in plastic sleaves, it's cheep and works just fine.

Hope this helps

I just purchased the entire set sans the PODs. Great system, plenty of material. More than enough material, even. By the time I get my group to the end of that there's always the 2e stuff to convert or write my own sessions. Few more dice in Q3 and solve the mystery of storage/organization and I'm set! I do wish there were a few more sets on the same scale as TEW but all in all I think it's a solid, if underappreciated, line.

We've found that printing off the basic action sheets that FFG provides, you don't even need the cards (but some people like them). You may also want to print off an extra stance tracker or two for larger groups. You could always photocopy any action cards you need (or just write them down from the PLAYERS GUIDE).

Our biggest hinderance was dice, so we picked up a couple extra sets. If you play on a small table, it's not a big deal, but on a larger table like we play on, we just needed MORE! :) Also regarding dice, there is a dice app for those of you who sleep with your ipads as well as online dice rollers for this game.

Here's the link to the basic action references, etc:

The only thing I could add at this point is that there's a ton of huge lots for sale cheap right now! I just picked up over $500 worth of stuff for $150 shipped! (I already had the core and a few expansions. This brings me to only needing the PoD stuff!)
