Question about today's GoT news post

By Slothgodfather, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

In today's news post, found HERE , they state "Playing a Melee? While your opponents battle each other for board position, you can slip Ser Davos Seaworth (The Great Fleet, 28) into a Military challenge to tilt its outcome in the direction that suits you best…and grab a point of power from his Renown"

I thought the naval rules dictated we had to be an attacking or defending player to participate. I also thought that even if you did manage to get a character into an opponent's challenge in a melee that even if the side you were participating on won, that you couldn't claim Renown since "you" did not win the challenge.

I'm really annoyed because I just tried to post rules quotes that verify that you cannot claim power for Renown in that way and that you cannot declare characters navally(sounds like? complice ) outside of you being the attacker or defender. The article is suggesting 2 things against the rules.

I've seen articles posted with incorrect game play before, but they updated it quickly after the original post. Maybe they will do the same here to keep from confusing newer players.

So apparently, for no good reason, they went against precedent and added the Naval rules to the end of the FAQ and not the support page supplement. Whatever. Ripped right from the FAQ:

"Any time after an attack is declared, the attacking or defending player can kneel a non-participating character with a [Naval] enhancement on the matching challenge icon and declare it as a [Naval] attacker or defender in that challenge."

So dey dun f*$&%# up.

Edit: Or the sentence is so vague that it actually doesn't imply this, but only seems that it does.

Can an attacking player declare one of their naval characters as a defender in the challenge.
