After years and years of playing this and the first edition I have a ton of cards that are mixed all up and I'm trying to sort them out. Is there a card list around here, or is there an explanation of what each set each card belongs to?

Every expansion has a symbol which identifies its cards printed on the bottom right corner (i.e. Island of Dread has a ship helm). If you don't know/remember the symbols, just check the images available at boardgamegeek:

Sorting the cards by name will take more time.

There I noticed that Ist edition base set cards have a wolfshead at the bottom, while 2nd edition has a shield.
