Collecting More ships

By Be4ch, in X-Wing

I'm new to the game and I've only got the starter box at the moment. I've looked at increasing the number of ships that I have but, as you know, there's hardly any stock out there so I'm not having a lot of luck. This may be a daft question but is the best thing at the moment to just buy another starter set? I know I'll end up with duplicate pilot cards but as I'll get 3 extra ships, another set of dice and more markers, is it the most cost effective way of expanding my forces at the moment? Is this what others do?

As I said, it's probably a daft question so apologies for that.

Cheers

it is definitely most worth it to buy another core set as the price alone is worth it because you get 3 ships for generally less than or the same price (depending apon pricing) of buying 3 more ships anyways and you also get the dice and more templates to play with

you only really need 1 expansion of X-wing and 1 expansion of Tie Fighter because you can still only use 1 of any named pilots in your list (unless you want at least 2 of each pilots for a secondary player)

but FFG is supposed to be releasing more Wave 1 ships in a week or two.. so keep your eyes peeled and talk to your local game stores to find out if and when the next shipment is coming in.. and hell, even maybe ask to pay up front and put them aside for you or at the very least put them aside for you.. the worst answer you can get is "no"

I decided to go with two of each, including the start set. And one each of the large ships.

The reason being it will give you the aforementioned extras, but it will give you enough of each ship to have your pick of all of the named/unique pilots.

For the large ships I found myself wanting more diversity that have two or more YT-1300/Firesprays would yeld in a 100 point game.

Granted you can buy more, but I decided that was those would be extra ships I'd have little expectation of using, and if I had the points, I would rather add a ship of another type anyways.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I'll definitely get a second starter set then.

Thansk again.

The only duplicate cards you get are the 2 unique X-Wing and 3 unique TIE Pilots. You still need 1 copy of each of the generic pilots per ship, so there isn't as many unused extra cards as you'd think.

Cool, thanks Jaravak.

While I'm asking daft questions, I'll ask this one as well. When assembling the bases, should I be gluing the pegs onto the bases? What's the general practice? They look so flimsy that I'm sure repeated pulling apart will ultimately break them (I'm sure one is stress cracked already just from putting the pegs together) so is gluing them together the best way to go. It also became annoying during my first game when I kept picking the the ships up to move them and the peg kept coming of the base. I haven't done it yet as I don't know if they'll be harder to store once glued together.

Give me your wisdom, please. :-)

Thanks

F you glue the ships to the pegs and the pegs to the base you will not be able to change ship tokens out. I would imagine storage would be an issue too, unless you have a box they can stand up in. I just leave my pegs together and detatch them from ship and base.

Hopefully FFG will offer replacement pegs for sell eventually.

I've been struggling with this question myself, and today I finally pulled the trigger on a second core set. Wish I'd done it months ago.

Yeah, I was going to glue the pegs to the base but not the ships. When I'm plying they come of the bases quite easily

I wouldn't glue anything to anything, could be a great way to really get yourself in a hole if something snaps.

As for a second core set, I'm considering it, not for the ships (this will be handy) but because I get more dice etc something that I really need. The extra ships will be a bonus.
