Sorry if my searching the forums didn't find this (I'm sure it has been asked).
Do you still suffer the Ion effects and take the token if you have shields left? It says 'when the enemy ship suffers damage'.

Shields do not stop the placement of the ion token nor do they stop its effect. The damage from the ion cannon will first remove shields, and then deal facedown damage cards when there are no shields.
But I don't WANT 'EM TOO!! <stomps foot>
That's what I figured from the rules, but was hoping to be different. I got worked today by a Y-Wing list. They turned theboard center into a parking lot (Ion + blocking=no movement for several turns!)

hah.. best description i've heard for a while..
Y-wings.. the Police of the Rebel army, enforcing speed limits to 10km/h in a galaxy near you!
So many people have it in their heads you have to take down shields before you can ionize them. Blame it on the X-Wing vs TIE Fighter game.
