Plans for individual Armies?

By LeBlanc13, in Battlelore

Does anyone know if there are any plans in the works to make Dwarves and Goblins into full fledged armies in their own rights. It seems pretty difficult to do this with the current rules set since they are still viewed as mercenaries for the human armies. With all the expansions that have added Dwarf and Goblin troops it seems they've got a viable miniature base to build army lists for both forces.

In my opinion this would only expand game play and make Battlelore appeal to a much wider audience.

the call to arms expansion mentions under "free Comanies Vs Nation play" that dwarf and goblins (and i hope humans) will get call to arms style deployment decks at some point to facilitate race VS race style combat . some people feel the armies will be made up from the specialist units cards others think they will include more basic style troops for each army.

I think they will be made up of the expantion specialists, mostly because i can see them balanceing out fairly well and because you could still use the specialist cards to tweak your army lists

i could see the deployment decks making very nice small expantions, toss in a few extra specialist cards and maybe a terrain hex that one of them brings into play and i think you would give players a fairly big bang for their buck

I believe that was how Richard envisioned it but DOW decided to break it out. I would like to see complete army packs that containt he basic units for the army, all specialists, the deployment decks, and all heroes for that race.

I bought the game and expansions as they came out. I enjoy playing them, but the promised materials to have playable invidiual raced armies hasn't happened yet. I remember the original hype surrounding the game and expansions, but a lot of it hasn't come to fruition. It's also been enough time to put a seed of doubt in my head that these rules or decks of cards may never come out.

Thats about sums things up with BL preocupado.gif .Maybe FFG will decide to enlighten us some day.

I have to agree that this would be the coolest way to expand the game by far.

i would love to see full army packs for races not released yet, but i would love a range of deployment decks to represent each nation and culture.

Like having a unique deck for each historical nation of men, a french deck, an english deck, and so on. and decks for each cuilture in the fictional races iorn dwarfs, shadow dwarfs, hill dwarfs.

This way you could use the same human or other race figures to play a number of cultures or nations, to change up your game just pick up a deck for like 10 bucks.

deployment decks are also very Important to my campaign system i would love to have more of them to work with.

Well, in BattleLore, each race is supposed to represent a historical nation. So they are technically one in the same. But perhaps they could come out with a historical (Scotch, for example) and then a lore one (dwarves) to accomodate both.

I have a feeling that if things go according to plan, the Deployment decks will be tied into a future campaign system... gui%C3%B1o.gif

I appreciate the way DoW rolled out the game, but to me this is the way to go (and the way I would've liked to see it go serio.gif ):

Base Game - pretty much as is

Call to Arms/Epic - single expansion as opposed to being broke into two (built into the base game would've been wonderful, but I understand how this might have been daunting to some customers, both in perceived complexity and price point)

Initial Heroes Expansion - would introduce RPG and Campaign elements to the game, introduce the basic ways in which on board Heroes would impact the game (again, could have been built into the base game, but that box would be getting ridiculously large and all the more daunting gui%C3%B1o.gif )

Then start releasing factions, complete armies including deployment decks - making future specialists available in blister pack-type releases, or also making units available in smaller quantities for those that want to further customize armies would be nice but not necessary. The first to be released would've been similar to the Dwarven, Goblin, and Human expansions that were released, save being bundled together by faction into single expansions and including the deployment decks. Future factions would be released with a larger "base" army and then a few specialists included as well.

And more Heroes/Creatures/Campaigns as the game rolls on...

As far as Historical vs. Fantastical, I like how DoW addressed both using the same materials, but do understand that it would offend the cosmetic sensibilities of some (many? most?). I like the economy of having dwarven spear bearers represent Scottish Schiltrons and, well, dwarven spear bearers depending upon the setting. But, I also recognize that the potential for offending more than just the aesthetical exist. I don't think a separate deck is needed for fantasy vs. historical, but making separate miniatures available would be nice, though likely not very cost effective.

O, and web-released adventures should be pumped out regularly gran_risa.gif - possibly collected into books to be sold as well.

While the way the Humans, Dwarves and Goblins have already been packaged a particular way, I see no reason that FFG couldn't adopt some sort of manner of the above (and, perhaps are working hard at doing just such a thing babeo.gif [hey, where's the "fervently praying" smiley :) ]), even re-releasing the figure expansions that have come out into single faction expansions that include deployment decks.

Remember DoW did plan to release blister packs for the various armies but supposedly (and I've heard differently from actual FLGS stores) they got feedback from people that the blister packs wouldn't work. So thus the way the expansions actually went out is due to this feedback.

And since various other games (i.e. Axis and Allies) have had a lot of success with doing this, I would think that at least exploring this aspect again would be very prudent. Since there are times when some people would like to obtain a few more armies of a few units.

Yup, I remember it well. I was looking forward to picking up a couple of units or a creature at $3-5 bucks a pop. Ideal to me would have been (will be?) large "complete" army expansions w/deployment decks augmented by blister packs of a couple of units of each type, with creatures being released as single blisters.

Seemed like (seems like gran_risa.gif ) a "have your cake and eat to" situation for all involved.
