Destroyed Objectives Clarification

By dirtywooky, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

On pg. 23 of the rule book it states that the death star dial will advance one point for each LS objective in the DS victory pile. e.g. each objective is worth one point on he dial. The example below that entry states that if the DS player destroys his or her second LS objective the dial advances by two points vs. just one. What is the official and correct ruling on this? Different players will interpret this ruling differently, so I want to get clarification. Thanks all.

1 for the first, two for the second, three for the third

I'm not trying to be rude or anything - but given the text of the rule, AND given the text of the example… how could anyone interpret this incorrectly?

I think this is a timing issue. If you destroy an objective and advance the dial before the objective is moved to the victory pile, I can see how the OP would expect the dial to only advance by 1 in the example in the rules.

The fact is, though, that the destroyed objective goes to the victory pile before you advance the dial, so the example is correct that you would move the dial up by two after destroying the second objective.

Here's how I misinterpreted this rule: A group of us were playing at a locally ran tournament last night and we were playing under the impression that when a DS player destroyed a LS objective the Death Star Dial (DSD) advanced by 1. This was in part due to how the rule was read to the group and how some of the players were taught when they were learning to play this game. The example that is printed in the rulebook was not quoted when the question arose of whether or not the DSD went up 1 per LS objective as there was never mention of the victory pile until this event. So ultimately there was a lot of miscommunication occurring, which brought up the question and desire of clarification for this rule. There was also player mistrust going on as well due similar incidents of this nature happening. Hope that clears it up for you.

This is exactly what was occurring and thank you for the clarification. :)

It does, thank you. So the misinterpretation arose because of poor teaching and players not reading the rulebook. In that case I can see how confusion could arise.
