Pilot/Ship expansions

By nimdabew, in X-Wing

I was just thinking about new pilots and how FFG would be able to re-release all of the ships with new pilots AND updated rules for them, ie new stats point costs etc.

Make a specific ship pack that is everything except for the ship itself. Make it $5 less than the cost of the actual expansion and include everything else! Y-Wings might get a bit cheaper, X-Wings would get some kind of boost if they need it after Wave 3, and everything else under the sun. It would create a lot of waste in the form of duplicate cards, but would let FFG retroactivly change things for the better, like Grey squadron pilots getting an elite talent.

Is there a more effecient way of re-releasing pilots or ships once they have already been introduced?

I have a feeling you will see 2 different things….

1) At some point FFG will release updated stat for pilots in exsistance. I believe they did this with Dust Tactics where they updated all of the early models by putting out new cards. I could be wrong here as I just got into Dust about 3 months ago, but if you go to Paolo Parente's Dust you can still purchase said cards.

2)You will see new pilots introduced from each ship, especially since pilot cards are currently in favor of The Imperials (9 Tie Pilots to 6 X-Wing, 6 Interceptor Pilots to 4 A-Wing Pilots). This way hopefully people will get a chance to play with fan favorites such as Corran Horn, Gavin Darklighter, etc. Individual Booster Packs would be great at maybe $5.00 a piece. Hopefully there would be some new upgrades such as "Wingman" or "Flight" so I could somehow manipulate using Ooryl Qyrgg as my Wing Gand for Corran.

The only ship I currently would ever want re-printed would be a X-Wing in Corsec Green (because I'm not skilled enough to do this myself), other than that I think the actual models are fine the way they are.

Reissuing ships with new cards would probably tick a lot of people off. I have no desire to buy more X-wings just to get new cards. I have all the X-wings I want. Even if they repainted it, I wouldn't want to buy more just to get more cards.

It's honestly a bad move for them anyways. What would make more sense is to just release fixed card packs. Have a pack for each ship class (or smaller ships at least) that provides new unique pilots, new skills, new weapons, new droids, or even throw in a few of the in demand cards already available. The interceptor pack could have a stealth card for instance. The Y-wing pack could have a shield card.

They could basically double the amount of available pilots for each ship this way. It would give us a ton of new options to play with. It would also give us a way to beef up our options without having to drop another $15-20 to get a couple stealth cards and end up with another ship we don't want/need.

More importantly for them though, it would be cheap. A pack with a few cards and some cardboard could easily sell for $6-7 and give them a much higher profit margin than a full model plus cards.

I'd love to see this as Wave 4 actually. Give them a little more time to fill the backorders of the ships of wave 1-3 and prep an extra large batch of the next wave of ships.

I agree. Even if they did a reprint the exsisting cards and/or added new pilots and ship weapons/ enhancements I would definatly be in for buying them.

One of the biggest marketing things FFG did is to make it so you had to get more ships to get say, muti "daredevil" or "push the limit" cards.

But seeing as they have had some issues with suppling enough ships on time and in enough quantites, it would be nice to see something to hold us

over till more ships arrive. old reprints or new waves.

But that is exactly what he said… Card packs without ship models with updated stats for the older Ships and the options they had in the booster (i.e. Reissue old pilots and adapt point costs where needed) and then put in some new pilots to the packs. If they avoid nerfing ships, you could still even play the old version of your pilot if you don't have the new one yet…

If they really did that for Dust, i hope they will do it for X-Wing too, but i am rather sceptical unfortunately!

The base Xwing in the game is still a beast though…why would they even want to mess with that…?

My hope is that they will release something like a Wave X card pack, incuding new (not reprinted) named pilots for ships from that wave as well as a couple of each upgrade released (for the first time) in that wave. This would be a simple one-of purchase for almost everyone, and would be relatively easy for FFG to produce, and would give players new ways to experiment with old ships.

Well the basic X-Wing is probably not the ship that is not correctly costed or statwise. One could argue that Tie interceptors are a little cheap for what you get compared to an X-Wing. Better manoeuvers, agility, boost, and all just for the cost of 2 shields? And they are cheaper for the same pilot skill (about 2 points. So they might be 1 point too expensive, but it was clearly the intent not to allow 5 X-Wing Rookies, but to do so with Tie Interceptors. Why, i have no idea honestly because Interceptors, barring very lucky hits against them are as difficult to kill with evade and extra agility as X-Wings and have advantages everywhere else. So X-Wings at 20 points would be correct but they are far from unplayable at 21 at all. Just give them a skill 1 pilot in our said package for 20 and we're golden. After all Rebels have different options and support possibilities too…

It is pretty much the Y-Wing that would need one or two points stripped (and that was meant), as then it would also be good without options. A lot of people, me included have debated about the weakness or overcost of Y-Wings. I still believe they are a pojnt too expensive, but they have become better as Impreials play more elite builds where ion cannons excel. In wave 1 they were prettty terrible. Let's see what the wave 3 turret and other stuff dos for it before stating it is still overcosted! A thing that would certainly be needed for the Y- Wing is more pilots and ones with medals while we're at it. The fact it is the only model that has no elite pilots is outright ridiculous, inreally ask myself if that was not a misprint from the beginning that they chose not to correct…
