Hammer of the Emperor… 142 pages?

By vargr, in Only War

So that is disappointing. Anyone have any idea why this is the only Player's Guide that is less than 255 pages?

This seems to be the expansion for the Guardsmen (Heavy Gunner, Medic, Operator, Sergeant, and Weapons Specialist). I would not be at all surprised to see one or more future expansions provide material aimed at the Support Specialists.

Nitpick - It's technically a 144-page book, but as is typical, the final 2 pages are FFG ads.

Point. Let's hope your supposition is correct. I'd have prefered a complete Player's Guide myself. I mean, if they ran out of ideas for filler, Forge World has hundreds of vehicles that could use some stats - it is a Guard game after all.

I'll admit to being more than satisfied with what we got!

I had low expectation for HotE, but it's pretty **** great. Stuffed to the gills with some of the best art I've seen in a 40kRPG book. Has all the rules I was looking for (sans the Tauros and rules for fliers, grr!) and all sorts of fun stuff to play with. I'm definitely going to get a lot of mileage out of the book; don't let the pagecount fool you.

I was also dissapointed by the page count, but reading the book I am putting all my misgivings back. Hammer of the Emperor is bulging with great content (both fluff and crunch), epic art (for example pretty much every pic with Scintillan Fusiliers), funny quotes (poor poor Trooper "Best shot in the platoon" Verrick) and overload of references (Gaunts Ghosts and Last Chancers were expected, but Winter Assault and Final Liberation? And I just skimmed it).

There are some glaring spelling errors and hope for other supplement for Support Specialities, but still, HotE got instantly place in 40kRPG Top 5 books.

I got my money's worth too… :)

Uhh stop making me jealous. I'm still waiting for the download version to be released.

I would definitely say that this book is 142 pages of worth it! Love all of the new content. Advanced Specialties and Mount Creation is just awesome!

+1 to "This book is 142 pages of awesome!". The new stuff is cool (my gaming group has already preparead a Condemned+Doomed regiment), the Mounted Combat rules are… hilarious (fun fact: the best Rought Rider specialization is the Medic ), and it is good to see that even the creators dislike social stuff in OW.
