I'm pretty sure that's a blaster turret at the hwk

By player1714252, in X-Wing

If I am understanding correctly then the idea of combining the blaster turret with a Y wing's forward armament then this would give an Attack rating of 4 at range 1. Standard forward armament of 2 + 1 for blaster + 1 for range 1 as it is a primary weapon.

That seems too good, it may work for the HWK with Attack 1 but it is available for the Y wing as well.

Well, first this is only an idea, so don't shoot me please.

But why in the world would having 4 attack dice on range 1 be too powerful. There are tons of other ships that can have it and much cheaper (after all the turret will cost at least 5 points equalling 23 points for a basic gold squadron. X- wings get it for 21 points, Interceptors for 18. Not to speak about Mithel or Backstabber. Also not to forget the crappy manoeuver template on the Y-wing. It is much easier for any of these cheaper ships to actually get a range 1 frontal shot than for a Y-Wing.

In fluff, Y-Wings could direct their turret forward to improve frontal firepower. So even fluffwise it makes sense.

But hey don't panic this was only an old proposition that was made in a random thread. Probably, no mod even read it.

OK, when you put it in context with other ships it does seem to work. It would certainly give the Y wing some respect in a head on gun duel.

Gotta love Y wing pilots… medals are for wimps!

On top of that DB i would rather say they make it like the first option i described. And as far as i am concerned i would find 3 attack dice all around on range 1 more powerful than 4 on front and 2 all around…

Or they made something very different than the ones i imagined. I am after all just speculating.

If you look really closely at the Blaster Turret card you can see that instead of starting with text that says "ATTACK:" it says something more like "ATTACK (FOCUS):" which means you need to have a Focus token to fire the weapon. I don't think you necessarily have to spend it to fire but you have to have one to fire at all, like the Homing Missile and Target Lock."

Glad to see Jan Ors in there as a pilot.

Is anyone else surprised at how small the HWK is (and the YT-1300 too for that matter)? Would of figured it as a small freighter or at least bigger than a shuttle which is surprisingly large. Seeing all the ships in scale has been an eye opener!

On top of that, Jan Ors is the top pilot (skill 8) and allows you to give another ship one more attack die in exchange for a stress token and the other named one is Roark Garnet (skill 4). He makes another ship have skill 12 for combat phase…

I have seen that on BGG. Also the "experts" over there seem to agree (well most of them) that surprisingly most things, but especially the HWK are sized correctly.

I always knew the Falcon was about that small. Thing that always confused me was how you could carry anywhere near enough in that thing to make it a worthwhile transport. It doesn't have the space for more than a few passengers and the cargo space would be god awful for interplanetary trips.

Yeah, I guess it is a bit of an pimped up dirty V8 Space-Ute the bogans love so much.
