Season Two Game Night Kits

By Toqtamish, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Playmat looks great, sadly the rest is trash.

I will take it all. I have had success in demoing the game and giving away the other promos. I love the mat!

I'm loving that game mat. I think it would look cool beside the regionals play mat with the red/blue contrast. I wish I'd had a chance to play for the first game night kit stuff.

I will also take it all. I have really been digging the Vader's TIE pod lately, so an opportunity to get some of them would be cool; and of course the playmat is AMAZING!

I am spearheading a SW LCG community and will be getting my retailer to pick this up. I'm running a demo this Friday and if I can promote a game night with this kit, that will be all the better!

This is rather… underwhelming. I was hoping for something special like new tokens. Instead I'll have 17 TIEs. Why the hell so many? With 2 GNKs planned for the next season, I am going to be throwing them out in bunches. Oh well.

So a playmat isnt as special as tokens? That playmat is awesome. Yeah, shield tokens or damage tokens would have been nice but I'll take a playmat.

If you want tokens then order the X-Wing kit, it has shield tokens in it.

They are the participation prizes, one per player for up to 16 players and the 17th is for the TO. If you don't have that many players yet hold on to them and give them out at demos and to new players as they join.

The playmat is awesome and much better than a deckbox and some tokens like the season 1 kit. I already have plenty of tokens from my two core sets as it is I threw some out.

Really like the playmat and the Luke cards. Could pass on the Vader TIE ones.

This. Will definately be wanting those shields =).

16 players were not even at many regionals. If I had 16 participants, I wouldn't be bitching about too many copies - as it now stands though, I'll be really surprised if anyone can get 16 attending regularly. The playmat is nice and seems to be the rage for everyone, I for one consider playmats pretty useless (and cumbersome), so I am not sold on that. But it makes a nice prize, that I concur. The main problem is that unlike the first kit, there is nothing for door/participation prizes. I would very much prefer less useless TIEs and more of other things, even the deck box. TIEs will easily get distributed after two tournaments and then I am left with whatever I come up with. 34… so yeah, two copies for pretty much everyone in most play areas. And TOs will still have plenty left. As for X- Wing, what am supposed to do with the rest? Sell it on EBay? :-) That is kinda poor job on FFG's part, not mine. But given that the main reason of organized play is to get more people to play the game, I can at least give promos to everyone and their mother. :-)

You're complaining because you have extra copies ? That seems rather silly.

I am sure you can come up with many ways to make use of those extra copies. Give them out at demos, let the store give them to new players when they buy a core set or any other of a number of ways to promote and grow the game. Heck save the extras and then use them to do other tournaments or run a noob tournament where the prizes are the promo cards that were released before they started to play. Then before you know it you will have enough players that nothing goes to "waste".

I was thinking about talking to my local store about setting up a SWLCG league, but when I followed the links from the page linked above to the FFG store, it appears that the Season Two kit is out of stock. I realize I procrastinated here, but am I out of luck and will I have to wait until season 3 to get a league kit? The page linked above says the kits are 'pre-orders' so I don't know if there'll be normal orders later. Or is it only listed as out of stock because I'm a normal user, and someone with a store account would be able to buy one? I'm saddened by how quickly these things sold out if that is the case.

You can't order them so it will always show as out of print. Only stores can order the kits.

Well that's happy news. I guess I was thrown off because for whatever reason I can see the Thrones, Cthulu, Dust, and Warhammer game kits in the store, all in stock, and appear as if I could order those if wanted.

I very much like the participation alt cards. I would prefer that the text box was transparent and get a "full-bleed" style, but I like alt art all the same. Since FFG has print-on-demand capabilities, the cost of the cards is probablly incrediblly low. That being the case, it is not as though reducing the quantity would equate to any appreciable price decrease. And as Toqtamish has stated, if you do not have sufficient players to use them all of the time: there are options. I have many extras and I give them out to everyone who gets a demo. The cost of these kits are quite reasonable and even if you threw away 90% of the participation cards, it would be worth it.

Also - you could order 4 kits for under $100 and combine them into a super event in which the top 8 get Lukes and Top 4 get mats. If only 8 people show, you would make money charging a very reasonable $15 each.

There are many options here and I would hate for such vocal minority nay-saying to unduly influence FFG to compromise what I think are very good OP kits.

I agree that naysaying these is silly, but I did want to point out that their print-on-demand capability would mean that the overhead on those cards is probably HIGHER, not lower. Its much cheaper to print in China and wait for the boat, which is why that's what they do for their regular product. Print-on-Demand is a perk which is much more expensive, but they can get new stuff out faster.

Word on the streets is that these are already sold out.

My shop says they don't think they will be getting them.

Any input on that?

I think you are correct, my shop was unavailable to get Q2 because they are all out of them :/

If I wanted to report a store for purchasing these solely for resale, does anyone think FFG would care? If anyone is interested who they are to avoid purchasing from them on places like boardgamegeek or ebay, LMK via PM.

Yes you should report them.

How do I go about it? I have their contact information, location, etc …

Have there been any sightings of these yet?
