COmbination of cluster missles and gunner

By Violator911, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok We are having a major debate on this combination. Cluster missles provides an attack twice. Gunner is if you miss a shot you get to make another primary attack. Now whats in debate is if you miss with the first attack, gunner activates and you loose the second attack where as im arguing that the cluster missles provides 2 attacks and gunner gives you a chance at a third attack. so we need official rulling here. Id prefer a response from the game creators so that we can put this discussion to rest.. thanks for your time.

Gunner: After you perform an attack that does not hit, immediately perform a primary weapon attack. You cannot perform another attack this round.

While cluster missiles says: attack (target lock): spend your target lock and discard this card to perform this attack twice.

Missing on the first cluster missile attack triggers gunner, which will result in the cancellation of the second cluster missile attack.

Whereas hitting with the first cluster missile attack allows the second attack to be made, which if missed could potentially trigger cluster missile.

There's a (very small, hard to see) link at the bottom of the page for submitting rules questions to FFG. They don't respond through the forums.

That said, the consensus on this is pretty universal and Crimson Owl lays it out for you. Gunner triggers after you miss with an attack. The Cluster Missiles provide two separate attacks. If either one of them misses, then the Gunner's text will trigger. It's not optional, and you'll lose the second attack from the Cluster Missiles.

Self-fixed. Lack of edit button >.<

This is in direct contradtion of clarification James Kniffen gave on the playtest forum where the Gunner/Luke ability was to be treated as optional.

It's one of the things that needs to make the FAQ for sure, because it really isn't worded as such.

It never occurred to us that the wording on Gunner and Luke made them mandatory actions. But the lack of (and use on other cards of) "may" sure makes that look like the case.

Has there been any clarification on "You cannot perform another attack this round"? Does that mean just the upgraded ship or does it mean the player?

Ah, been a while since we've looked over the rulebook, but that's how we'd been playing it.

So if first attack misses second misses gunner gets to launch a new attack.

If one of the cluster missle attacks hit then gunner does not get to shoot?

But can han re roll any of these attacks?

Your question is pretty garbled, but I'll try and make sense of it.

  • If the first Cluster Missile attack does not hit, Gunner triggers a Primary Weapon attack. You do not get to make a second Cluster Missile attack, because of Gunner's wording.

  • If the first Cluster Missile attack hits, Gunner does not trigger. If the second Cluster Missile attack does not hit, Gunner triggers a Primary Weapon Attack.

  • Neither of these interacts significantly with Han Solo's ability. He is a reroll on dice, not a new attack. If you choose to use Han's ability during any of the attacks, that would be prior to the determination of whether the attack in progress will hit or not.

That's assuming they didn't change their minds on it after playtest but before relase. But yeah, the way it's written it's undoubtedly mandatory to make the attack.
