Please let me know if you have any questions!

Nice, I'm planning to be there with at least one other, possibly more, from NYC. Unfortunately I can only make the joust -- I have plans on Sunday that I need to keep.

I'm so glad you guys are coming! It was a lot of fun at the last regional.

I wanted to retain the competitiveness of Joust but also wanted to have a separate Melee tournament(not on the same day) as I know a lot of people that are interested in one and not the other. I'm also hoping to have some additional prize support(maybe with parts of a game night kit) but am still figuring it all out.

7 rounds (counting elimination) of Joust will be something like 6-7 hours. Your Melee could be only 2 rounds and a final table with a low turnout, but that's still nearly 5 hours. And you'll go over 6 hours if you need an extra round. Adding time for lunch and dinner breaks, one day is simply not enough.

Exactly. It was something I would not have any other way.

In the Newington, CT regional, we had 1 round of melee and then followed up with all of Joust. We also started at 2pm. From the get go, I knew we were going to end late and it is possible players made all kinds of mistakes from being tired. We ended at midnight. When players travel, that is a lot to ask of them, so running each format on 2 different days seemed to be the most reasonable way to go.

Hehe. This weekend, we have our Regional with 82 players in Joust and 70 players in Melee so far (these people have already paid, because the Regional is organized by our local distributor - who will pay for the winner to come to Worlds). For Joust, we're looking at 7 rounds of swiss with a cut to top 16 (with top 32 a distinct possibility if we get about 20 more players). For Melee, we're looking at 4 rounds with a cut to top 16. So we're doing it over 3 days, starting with the Melee on Friday. This forces Melee players to take a day off, but since Wednesday and Thursday are holidays (it's coincidence, the Wednesday is fixed and the Thursday is movable), it's a day many people will take off anyway.

That sounds like an awesome event! Did the TO procure more than 1 regional kit? Sounds like the event could use at least 4!

He doesn't realize "you guys" could include me…

roll call! who's coming? someone convince me to make the drive.

I'll be there for the joust.

How late in the evening do you think the Joust & Melee will last?

I'm thinking of going, but I'd have to rent a car to get down there from the Boston area, and I'm trying to figure out if I should rent a motel room and stay for the Melee, or leave after the Joust…if I should rent the motel room for only one night or two, etc. Logistics!

Hey Trooper!

Each round is approximately 1 hour(will decide exact duration of each round on the day of tournament). We will have 4 rounds of swiss(5 rounds depending on the turn out) and cut to a top 8 single elimination format. So, if you make the top 8, you might play until 7pm - 9pm or so. Does that help?

As for Melee, it is difficult to say because the format will depend on the turnout as well, but I'd estimate that finishing up at around 5pm - 6pm that Sunday.

I hope I was able to help answer your question.

Decided to make the drive for this. Hope to see some of the NYC folks there. I'd hate for this to be an easy win :P You guys gotta make me work for it =D

i didn't sleep alot the last two days from a sick toddler so it took me several seconds to get this joke. But once I did, huge lol IRL. Well played ;)

I've reserved a rental car and a cheap motel room there in Manchester…I am going to be there! It is very, very exciting.

Of course, I'm a really new player who'se only played a few games with another new player friend of mine. So…I don't think I'll do stellarly…but I'm coming because I can't find other players in the Boston area and playing with yourself is just not as fulfilling.

Outstanding!

You are in luck! It looks like several players from the Boston area will be coming as well. It would be great to develop the Boston meta a little bit with tomorrow's event.

By the way, I'm a Yankees fan and I buy all the most expensive stuff in the hopes that they will help me win. ;-)

One thing I forgot to mention is that the tournament will be held in the building directly across the street from the store itself. The space we are playing in is the store's property. I'd also park in that lot across the street as well.

There should be signs and/or an employee at the store that will be able to point you in the right directions.

We also have some additional prize support and raffles for the event.

This is going to be outstanding!
