DH items in BC

By Natherul, in Black Crusade Rules Questions

Hey all!

I have both the Dark Heresy books as well as the Black Crusade ones and the items can be used from each to the other with no issues, but I wonder if anyone has any way to convert the cost between them?

Most importantly the conversion from DH to BC, as thats what Im currently hosting. But any rules for the other way as well is ofc appriciated as well.

DH and BC both have availability ratings that function much the same way. DH uses thrones to represent cash, while BC ignores that and just makes Infamy rolls to acquire items based on their availability.

Apart from perhaps ruling that certain Imperial-oriented or AdMech only items might be more difficult to obtain, there really isn't anything you need to convert, just use the Availability ratings straight out of the DH books.

You will want to skim the weapon qualities sections though - a good number of things have changed since DH, so some of the items may need tweaking.

EDIT: And honestly, the thrones system for cash in DH didn't work very well, thus why it was replaced with Influence in Ascension, Profit Factor in RT, Requisition in Deathwatch, Infamy in Black Crusade, and Requisition again in Only War. Penny pinching in order to have enough cash to buy bullets causes more problems in gameplay than it adds in flavor (Don't believe me? Check out how much a Guardsman makes per month versus how much it costs to buy lho-sticks to feed a habit and still buy las packs to feed his gun, you'll laugh. Then look at how much it costs to feed that heavy bolter you just purchased, you'll cry)

I agree with you Adversius! but I was kinda fishing for a chart for what amount of cash represent what level of avilability. But I guess I have to improvise :P

nvm, just found thats it stated availability on the items, I must have been blind last time i checked….. :D

Honestly, I like the cash system more for mundane items, I shouldn't be able to fail a roll for some minor common item or have to even bother with it. On Lhos, games I have been in, represent a pack as a supply for X amount of time, normally a month (especially with the rough conversion of 1 throne to 10 bucks works for a lot of items), for the las packs, a guardsman shouldn't have to buy a lot, mainly because they are rechargeable, from standard power sockets, slots on guard vehicles, slowly with sunlight and even in a fire in a pinch (though this ruins it). Bullets at 20 rounds for 1 throne is similar in cheap cost, 15 thrones worth (cost for a las pack) is 300 rounds of ammunition. Plus, the monthly pay is in addition to whatever work the acolytes can manage, like hiring themselves out to a gang as mercs to get undercover, grabbing ammo to use off fallen baddies, selling some ganger guns on the black market at times, confiscating gelt off suspects and whatever "creative" ways your radical acolytes can manage.

Side note: the availiability in DH is easier than other systems as it lacks the higher up levels IIRC
