Edge Of The Empire @ the Star Wars Experience.

Howdy all, I am wackydave, I was at the Star Wars experience And really Had a blast Playing the RPG edge of the empire. I was able, as were several others, able to play with some of the designers of the game and with each session I took away very Valueable information on playing, mastering the games and the dice mechanics.Jay's play was probably one of the most intuitive on how easy it is to actually be a game master in the game and how the gm can have as much fun as the players. for example just drop the name "Jammeson quicke the Ithorian pimp!!!!" And imediately i recall laughing my arse off at how he asked a player for a name. and viola! a legacy is born! his style gets the players to really write the story and he just interjects the details. His style is loose and great for a quick and spontaneous game that is sure to be enjoyable by everyone. I really felt he was just as much a player as we were. My girlfriend Megan really likes this style. and i also like it and am sure to use that kind of style especially with new players and players who really get into thier characters. but with eote you are invested as soon as you begin either creating a character or in the case of pre generated characters the obligation really sets the tone for the gaming! i LOVE the mechanics of the obligation system. and enjoy how it alters and enhances the gameplay. for instance if your character has a bounty on their heads from the empire he/she might think twice about rushing into a confrontation with stormtroopers. and yet how it can derail the companions from obtainining a goal due to having to deal with someone's obligation. Thank you Jay for saturday evenings game! i learned alot and laughed alot! and had a blast playing….Now for katrina's game play on sunday's 11:30 play. Katrina had a little more control in her game and ran a GREAT GAME!!! I have to say i had just as much fun sunday as i did on saturday evening! although We all were ready to Space our droid companion he did sacrifice himself ( or was willing to) to help us gain our objective. Katrina's style of gaming is more of what i think a Game master is, although i think it is very important to say Neither designers used a screen exept as a guide nor did they roll anything in secret. it was right out infront of us players and her style i think is more suited to actual pre generated scenarios or ones that a game master cooks up and prepares for a set group that plays in longer more complicated objectives over several acts. or to be more exact players who need more of a structure in playing in order to keep them foucused on the game.I loved her style of play and found that we completed our objective in the alotted time. even though we did the same on jays game i felt ( not judging any style better than another) that katrinas seemed to move along faster. the Game play on either style was just simply awesome and i really was wanting the experiences both games to continue with the group into other games. the dice mechanics make everyone invested in the outcome weather or not they are the rollers And I actually have to give an edge to jay for showing us how we can use the dice to work together. and very much intend to use that in my gaming. overall i am so grateful to fantasy flight games and a really big thanks to jay and katrina in thier styles of play and thier advice in gaming i cannot wait for he core rule book to come out. as i miss playing already and beginning a new character. in a universe where the emipire rules and i can explore the seedy underbelly of of a galaxy far far away.
