So these write ups have been waiting for me to post because the internet sucks in A-stan. After arriving home last week I can say that one of my best experiences was playing this game with a lot of the boys to pass the time. The game was sent in a care package by Hothie back in March and the weeks that followed were filled with crazy 100 point battles with metas that I have not seen to often on this forum or AFM, as well as 6 man free for alls which had suprising outcomes.

I will start with the battles that are covered in the pictures.

After Unboxing the Core set and one of every expansion, We set to work constructing the dials and placing the cards in protective wrappers. after we had completed that I played a game against Ryan, using the basic set up rules for play.

I Played the Rebel X-wing and Ryan used Two TIE/ln. I made this original write up in March in the General sections of the forums titled "Got my wave 2 Ships Today, WOOT!". Here, FINALLY, are the pictures.

In addition, we played a 180ish point game (the write up for this game was also in the same post). The Pictures for this game are now also up.

For a quick re-cap so you do not have to dig through the multiple pages of wave 3 ship guesses ( that mystery has been revealed effectively squashing the discussions of what wave 3 will be FOREVER) and pre HSF Rebel Squad Ideas.

I was on the Rebel Team with Tom and Tyler, and Ryan, Levi and John were the Imperials.

I controlled Wedge with R2D2 and Luke with R2F2

Tom controlled Han Solo with Chewbacca

and Tyler controlled Arvel Crynyd and Horton Salm w/ Ion Cannon

Ryan Flew Soontir Fel and Howlrunner

Levi flew Darth Vader and Mauler Mithel

and John flew Boba Fett and Dark Curse

Needles to say there was a large furball with plenty of collisions and in the end the Rebellion was able to claim victory.

Anyways the next month was filled with Star wars battles just about every night until two weeks before we went home because we were so busy. I will try to write up a few more from our fun in Afghanistan later on after the box I shipped with my notes comes in the mail.

Great pics. Thanks for risking your life for others in a foreign country too. I hope X-Wing helps relieve some of the extreme amount of stress you must feel serving in such a dangerous area. I'm an ex-soldier myself.

Games are a good diversion when you have some down time down range. They used to have a Flames of War group in Iraq, but that started after I left (of course). We used to play some Battletech at times and even had a 'field set" packed in one of our vehicle sponsons. We used to have guys who never touched a miniature game jump in and have fun.

Good stuff.

For some reason, I have never considered sending an X-Wing core set as a care package overseas, but it seems absolutely brilliant! I don't think I know anyone actually deployed currently. How would one go about sending something like this overseas randomly?

There is in fact a website that can help you sponsor Soldiers at an individual level, (not sure if they do Marines, Sailors or Air Force), I believe that it was formerly "adopt-a-Soldier", but it is located on www.soldiersangels.org. It is a non-profit organization where you can "adopt" Soldiers and send personalized care packages. I knew quite a number of Soldiers who had recieved a care package through this organization (as well as gaining a pen pal). I am pretty sure the USO also organizes care packages and donations of games which can be signed out in the USO rooms at airports across the country and in the large recreation tents overseas. I believe that the Morale Welfare and Recreation buildings (MWR) the Army operates can also recieve donations for rec-centers stateside and downrange. Normally MWR can be contacted through an on base representatives who is also in charge of organizing events and tournaments (cards, games, pool video games, etc.) for the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) program.

I feel that unlike any conflict ever before, the support of the American people can be felt overseas thanks to the small miracles loaded into care packages. Random acts of kindness truly deliver joy to the hearts of those overseas.

This is GREAT! Everything is well done, all parties envolved. I have the upmost respect and graditude for our Veterans, and this has inspired me to help. This is a fun and easy way to show support for our armed forces, thank you for this post and thank you for your service.

If your ever in the Portland Metro or SeaTac " Seattle WA " area post. It would be great to have a game at one of the local stores some time.

Actually that would be a pretty cool idea for FFG and other publishers. Give customers the option of donating an extra $1 (or more) at the checkout in the FFG store (or even on FFG products on Amazon etc.) to cover the cost for games to send over to those serving abroad.

Considering a certain amount of men and women will purchace these games for themselves when they get home it would also be good promotion for FFG and gaming in general.
