Aye, the E-Wing looks like a space version of a Unicorn crossed to a Walrus. Also they explain S-Foils by the heat generated by the laser cannons, so they separate for more efficiency. And then comes the E-Wing and puts a huge laser cannon exactly above the cockpit. Bad enough the pilot would be blinded by the huge flash of a laser being fired half a meter from his head, no he would also be cooked by its heat… Not that i am a fan of scientificly accurate sci-fi but this???

But it will come in handy once the ims will have the Defender!

I agree. I hate the E-wing it was my least favorite part of the Dark Empire Comic. I don't care so much about the science of Star Wars, becasue no matter what any one claims, there isn't any science in Star Wars. Thing look the way they do becasue they look cool, and by that measuring stick the E-wing should never exist in the Star War's Universe.

As for the TIE Defender, I kinds hope we don't see it. In a computer game (TIE Fighter) there is nothing wrong with being in a fighter that is faster, heavier armed, and harder to kill then everything else out there. And that was what the TIE Defender was, but in a game where you have a point buy and every ship is supposed to be worth while as something more than somebody elses target practice Ships that are just better than other ones don't hold much appeal.

If they did put the TIE Defender out and it was the be-all and end-all that it was in the computer game it would either be 1- broken or 2- over priced.

Well in fact no, the E-wing was meant as a replacement for the X-Wing and they were developed somewhat later to counter newer Tie designs like the Defender. The E-Wing should outmatch the X-Wing in pretty much every category, but it had problems with some technical parts like its guns or Astromechs. It did also replace the X-Wing eventually after all these issues were fixed. For all i know they were not developped until much after the galactic civil war.

In fact did you perhaps mean the wrong E-Wing or another craft like… say the Z-95?

Also Wookiepedia says:

Now i am not a big fan of ultrarealistic sci-fi tech-talk as stated already (i'll leave the discussions if beaming really works to the Trekkies), but if the excess of heat could damage engines and weapons, i would say it is not a great idea to put a laser cannon that close to a pilot as seen in the E-Wing. They also write that on the E-Wing the outer Engines were too close to the cannons which again caused malfunctions. (Do they ever learn from mistakes? On X-Wings it worked because engines and weapons were apart, then they think, hey let's just build a fighter where we put them close together again XD)

One can also find that the huge solar panels on Tie Fighters are in fact not only solar panels but radiators that are equally built for heat dissipation.

I know it was supposed to be a replacement, but where I keep hearing about Stealth-Xes and newer versions of the X-Wings, I've hardly heard of further E-Wing variants or the X-Wing outright disappearing well into the Yuuzan-Vongh era. Granted, I don't have my ear to the ground of star-wars lore as closely as others, but it always seemed the X-Wing remained the prime alliance attack fighter while the E-Wing always felt like, "and this was here too." Sure, the development problems were fixed, but X-Wing development had moved on and passed up the E-Wing to make it a second-fiddle starship.

And, heh yeah, you're analysis here sounds like how Trek fans approach thier sicence fiction (no worries, I'm a trek fan myself). Part of the relief in star wars though is that the attention to detail among the community doesn't seem as obsessive as that in the Trek circles. The E-Wing is a pretty cool fighter on it's own, not as iconic as the X-Wing, but okay enough to be stylish. At least it isn't a frankenstein-fighter like a selection of Empire vessels..

Thing look the way they do becasue they look cool, and by that measuring stick the E-wing should never exist in the Star War's Universe.

Uh, why? If style trumps science then it doesn't matter what the E-Wing looks like for it to exist in Star Wars!

In my opinion the TIE Defender is the most beautiful TIE FIghter to come out of Star Wars and I'd be disappointed if we didn't get a chance to bring it to the table. I'm well aware and accepting of the fact that it's going to be over-priced compared to other Empire ships, but I think the Empire deserves to have at least one ship that fights better than the Rebels. After all, if they can stamp out thousands of star destroyers each year, what happens when the Empire spends that budget on a single starfighter?

Besides if the TIE Defender is 30+ points it's going to face lists that outnumber a TIE Defender flight element. For once the Rebels are going to have more ships than the empire.

Yeah sorry i couldn't resist on blaming the Trekkies again. I was just watching "Fanboys" when i posted, sooooo…

No i would be okay with E-Wing and Defender really, as long as they just manage to price them correctly and for E-Wings they might just might make you toss a coin, on heads you're good, on tails your pilot just got cooked by your lascannons radiation and heat XD

I am with you dude. To me The 720 is also a fairly recognizable EU (I will not make the mistake of using iconic again) In addition to the new RPG it was also included as one of the first EU ships in the WEG D6 SW RPG.

+1 hoping for the Ghtroc 720 eventually. Lots of fond memories of that ship from my WEG rpg days!

So what about the VT-49 Decimator, it's basically the evil version of the Millenium Falcon, it looks absolutely grim and has about the same size than the Falcon too. I love the design too it looks like the Tie's bigger brother, perfect fit!

Mmh, every time I see that ship I can't help staring at the R2 dome on the dorsal side.

Actually, I'd rather have the YE-4 instead.

Ye4_gunship.jpg

Yes, but since we already get the shuttle (and the YE-4 seems to be a souped up version of one) and we don't yet have an imperial ship with an all around firing arc, i thought the VT would be a better fit…

I just tey to figure what we do not already have. Since the HWK will come, i am also willing to consider a little less known ships like the VT as long as they add something to a side they did not already have.

In my opinion Z-95 would be extremely inpractical. Tie Fighters swarms work pretty well for empire, because most of Rebels' ships has agility of 1 or 2. Low firepower of Z-95 wouldn't be effective against agile imperial starfighters. Maybe unique pilots would make it more atractive... I don't know, I just can't see a suitable place there for Z-95 right now.

I would love to see Tie Defenders and E-wings. Besides being a imperial counterpart for B-Wing, Tie Defender could introduce new upgrade: tractor beam. E-Wings could bring us new R7 astromechs. As for the other ships it's difficult to say. I
think Tie Phantom would be interesting. Maybe it would bring cloaking device to a little higher level than a card introduced by Firespray.

Any plans to branch out into a ground based game way down the road (sorry for asking a lot of questions)?

As someone that has played Fighter combat games for years moving into ground based units as anything other than static Gun Arrays and targets doesn't really work.. Compare the max speed of an AT-AT (60 km/h) to a Tie Fighters flight speed in atmostphere (1,200 km/h). In a turn at full pelt an AT-AT can't even manage a 1 maneuver.

Saying that I will be getting out my Aeronautica Canyon Scenery, Tattoine houses (OK Middle Eastern but they will look right), and scratch built ground gun emplacements and be running some low altitude missions.
