Couple of quick questions:
1) what sets, chap packs, promos, etc are standard. Legal?
2) can anyone point me to a website that is 1/8 as awesome as Tzumainn's old site?
3) can anyone share with me a strategy to get back in with maximum bang for the buck?

Check out www.cardgamedb.com and agotcards.org; both are great sites for gettingup to speed. Card game db has a visual spoiler list that has all the cards by block that are standard legal. There is another great resourcecalled Team covenant that does the best Agot vids that cover top players and decks that would help you as well. The best way to get back into the game is probably try to scoop up a collection (look for lcg in title) on ebay.

The LCG format has no rotation/standard block, and the only "illegal" cards are determined by the banned list (which includes only two entries, both of which will recieve errata when they're reprinted).

If you don't mind me asking, what was your first name? I seem to recall that we've met in person at GenCon or the like, but I can't put a name or face with the moniker.
I played him once during Regionals I think it was during Winter/ITE timeperiod, since I do recall using dothraki seas to destroy Morgan's Baratheon deck (and I started playing with A Song of Twilight's release).
He was a frequent and controversial board poster, and IIRC ordered a deck check at said event (but I don't know the reasons or further details of that.)
He also was heavily disapointed with the early cycling of 5KE (I was sort of disapointed myself, we never really had a chance to enjoy 5KE without Winter Edition and I still miss that set). And quit around then.
And that sums up what I know. But the best person to ask would be Lars, as I think he and Ser Lannister were meta-mates.
Man that's almost making me go and rebuild my 5KE True Queen deck… I loved that deck… so much fun.
I love this game, hated that it coulda rivaled MtG. For ccg supremacy especially after the hbo popularity…however couple years later…I cant resist and my roommate loves the game as well…at least the lcg is easier to financialy get back into.
I cant wait to play yall again…I wanna look into the online versions too…
