Hmmm, which list?

By Lt. Husker, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So I'm going to a regional this weekend and I have two lists to choose from. I have tested both against multiple lists multiple times and I just cant decide so I'm going to let the internets pick. It's between this:

Total: 99pts

Krassis Trelix 51pts

with Heavy Laser Cannon, Gunner, and Stealth Device

Bounty Hunter 48pts

with Heavy Laser Cannon, Gunner, and Stealth Device

and this:

Total:100pts

Darth Vader 33pts

with Stealth Device, Veteran Instincts

Soontir Fel 33pts

with Stealth Device, and Push the Limits

Night Beast 18pts

with Stealth Device

Obsidian Squadron Pilot 16pts

with Stealth Device

My first list puts out a lot of damage percentages and has alot of shields/hull. Its simple to run and has been very affective. I was going to put extra shields but I dont have the cards or the points and stealth device is handy for a turn or two which is crippling when you need to deal mass amounts of damage to these guys quick. Not much more explanation is needed.

My second list is based around the fact that Vader will move forward, focus and evade. Soontir will focus then push the limit to evade which will stress him and give me a second focus token. Night Beast will if at all possible do a green move (which happens more often than not) and get a free action focus and evade for the turn. The Obsidian is there to fill points and deal some damage or bump ships if need be. With Focus and evade tokens everywhere with a natural 4 evasion (possibly 5 for distance and maybe even 6 from an astroid) this team is very very hard to damage. Ive been hit by Han solo with a gunner and not taken damage. I've been hit by ship spam and not taken damage. It is a little harder to play due to the higher number of ships and the precise movement needed to get your ships into good position but I'm comfortable with it.

So which will it be? Yall decide.

list 2 looks stronger imo.

here are two other possible squads:

TEAM ONE

vader + swarm + engine upgrade (29)

soontir + push the limit + stealth device (35)

3x academy pilot (36)… great blockers. u have options to keep them close to vader to maximise firepower and use swarm to get in early shots with one.

100pts

TEAM TWO

vader + swarm tactics + engine upgrade (29)… boost with an extra action makes vader just plane broken at intiative 9.

soontir + push the limit + stealth device (35)

howlrunner + swarm tactics /or stealth device (20/21)… with swarm u get to fire at 9,9,8,8… not bad.

Black Squadron Pilot + Draw Their Fire (15) … acts as body guard for howlrunner so u can get more use out of the reroll ability.

99/100pts

I really like both of those lists. Im gonna have to play those as soon as I get the chance. The problem is I'd like to test them first and I'm not gonna get to play till the tourney starts saturday. Finals are next week and I have to study all day tomorrow.

hmm 1st sqd not legal. switch up Soontir for Turr Phennir and drop stealth device. Lol . 99pts

2nd sqd also over. Soontir doesnt get stealth

You’re going to have to elaborate on how my squads are not legal. I’ve only been playing a few weeks so I may have missed something. They’re all the correct number of points (I just rechecked for the 3 rd time) and they all have the correct equipment upgrades. What am I missing?

Unless you're refering to the teams that you posted. I havent done the math on those yet.

yes was my squads! here r the updated and legal versions

TEAM ONE

vader + swarm + engine upgrade (35)

Turr Phennir+ push the limit + stealth device (28)

3x academy pilot (36)… great blockers. u have options to keep them close to vader to maximise firepower and use swarm to get in early shots with one.

99pts

TEAM TWO

vader + swarm tactics + engine upgrade (35)… boost with an extra action makes vader just plane broken at intiative 9.

soontir + push the limit (30)… y

howlrunner + swarm tactics (20)… with swarm u get to fire at 9,9,8,8… not bad.

Black Squadron Pilot + Draw Their Fire (15) … acts as body guard for howlrunner so u can get more use out of the reroll ability.

with this 2nd list u could downgrade soontir to turr & drop the Draw their fire on Black Sq Pilot and have extra points for a stealth device OR downgrade the Black Sq Pilot to an Academy and add a Stealth Device somewhere.

100pts

Like I said, I would love to try these but it'll have to be after the regional tomorrow. Kinda scared to play them for the first time tomorrow

best to play what u r comfortable/familiar with. the variable pilot skills of any list mean u will have to play ita few times beofre you can figure out how best to fly it. imo its actually beneficial to do this on your own 4-5 times with any new squad so u can figure out how ur team moves as a team or which combination of ships u want to run together :)

Well I ended up playing the double firesprays and took 1st. We had 14 people and they were all pretty solid players. Feels pretty good to have the trophy on my mantle.

nice. what were the other top4 squads?

My friend that went up with me took 2nd with:

Howlrunner 18pts

Stealth Device and Determination

6x Obsidian squadron pilot ties

I wasnt impressed with the list that took 3rd but the guy knew how to pilot them well enough to make up for the list. It was:

Vader decked out

Soontir fel decked out

Avenger squadron pilot decked out

4th place was:

Luke Skywalker

with swarm tactics

Rookie pilot

2x Y-Wings

both with Ion cannons

Im probably missing a few upgrades but I know the number of ships with said pilots are correct.

Round 1 I fought two firesprays with dark curse.

Round 2 I fought my friend with Howlrunner/Obsidian spam

Round 3 I fought Han Solo with 2 y-wings with ion cannons

Round 4 I fought Luke with rookie pilot and 2 y-wings with ion cannons

After 4 rounds we cut to the top four for a single elimination

Round 5 I fought the guy from round 4 again (so luke/rookie/2 Y's)

Round 6 I fight my friend with Howlrunner/obsidian spam again

All in all it was really fun and am looking forward to the next regional I can hit up

Ya I had alot of fun also. I have never flown against a swarm list like your buddy had before. I learned alot from that game with him. I went 3-2 with 15 points. One loss in the 5th game from you, and one loss from your buddy with the swarm list my first game played.

I was the guy with the 2x's and 2 Y's. I am not used to where you play 5 games in a row like that. We did not play for 4th or 3rd place spot. I guess with points he may have beat me that way. I am not sure. I did not get to look at our points results.

I will be more prepaired for the next Regional that I go to. I have only went to one android regional, and it did not seem as brutal as this one on me for some reason.

Here was my list:

Luke with Swarm, R2

Rookie

2x Y-wings with ions and r5's

Congratulations on your win. I sent you a friend request.

Wow i am quite surprised that the double firespray works, i have played against something about identical a few times with my double YT list. I won both times pretty easily by staying just out of range 3 at the beginning (it's a guessing game but it is possible) then punching throttle and going very close or ramming/getting rammed by the Firesprays denying frontal shots and shooting diagonally on the other myself if possible. That way we both ended up at range 1 or he could not shoot at all. After the first pass the YTs are at a clear advantage because i could get way more shots in than the enemy and with Han and Chewie, i also had a pilot skill, durability and firepower advantage on top of that. In one game i managed to not giving my enemy one single shot with the HLC. Another game he tried to pincer me with his firesprays but as i set up after him i just refused one flank, slaughtered a Firespray and then went 2v1.

The difference was my enemies had no stealth devices, i don't know if that made all the differenc or of you just are that skilled, but my respect for winning with that build, i saw it and thought it would not really be worth trying it myself have playtested the triple Bounty hunter though). Good job winning a regional with it really!

@Grumium Good to hear from ya man. And I know what you mean about my friends list. It can be really hard to dealt with that many ships at once and if they can all get a shot at range 1 or 2 than your're probably gonna lose a ship or 2.

@ForceM Thanks! It's funny because I'm kind of surprised to hear you say that about your friend. To be honest it may be because I am super comortable with that list and it's rare that I dont get shots where and when I want them. He may just not be experienced enough with it to get it working. He should be moving first and getting actions while you're moving second and not getting actions if you bump. What pilots and gear was he running?
