Doran Martell adn Brimstone

By blashkowitch, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi,

Recently when we have played a meele game (five friends) , this situation occurs. I had Doran Martell (TGM) out, and Brimstone, I lost challenge so I have triggeered response from Doran: Response: After yo u lose a challenge as the defender, each opponent must choose and discard 1 card from his or her hand.

My undrestanding actions followed are that everyone have to discard card, but one after another, because every discrad of card creates opportunity for response from Brimstone,

one of my friend reply that it's not possible that I can't triger more responses from Brimstone for one reponse from Doran,

thank you for your help..

Since it says "each opponent," that means that all the cards discarded from his trigger (whether one or ten) all come from the same triggered effect, so you would only get one trigger of The Brimstone, unfortunately. Same for Corpse Lake in a melee… if I mill all my opponents' decks with the same effect (i.e. Frostfang Peaks or Euron Crow's Eye) and each one of them discards a character, I still only get one power

Sorry guys, but Brimstone can trigger off of each card that is discarded from an opponent's hand.

Brimstone text:

Response: After a card is discarded from an opponent's hand, choose 1 character. Until the end of the phase, that character gains or loses an icon of your choice.

Each card that is discarded from an opponent's hand creates a separate response opportunity for Brimstone. Corpse Lake says "triggered effect that does X", which is very different from Brimstone. Brimstone can trigger off of each card that is discarded from an opponents hand no matter how it is discarded.

Therefore, in 4 player Melee, Brimstone and Doran Martell are a combination that is significantly annoying because it can results in disabling multiple characters just from Martell losing a challenge.

It's important to note that Brimstone is responding the discard, not the effect of Doran. That's why each discard creates a NEW response opportunity.

Exactly this. Note the difference in text on a card like Corpse Lake :

" Response: After a triggered effect discards 1 or more characters from the top of an opponent's deck, claim 1 power for your House. (Limit 3 times per round.) "

This card subscribes to Storm's original response. Note the lack of that text on The Brimstone :

" Response: After a card is discarded from an opponent's hand, choose 1 character. Until the end of the phase, that character gains or loses an icon of your choice. "

I agree. I went back and reread the card, and apparently I found the one entry for it online (didn't have my cards with me) had the wrong wording on The Brimstone, so, my bad.

I still think, though, that the developers of this game sit back and just think of ways to word cards and rules text/interpretations for no other reason than to give the majority of people severe headaches and o.0 moments

Ugh, what card search engine did you use? I always use CGDB. I haven't had an issue yet.

And yes… The card text in this game is pretty hilariously maddening.
