When upgrading traits, are the heroes limited to the number of cardboard counters available (4 each melee, range & magic).

Example, I have Laurel & Zyra, will it be impossible to upgrade both to 5 black dice in ranged since zyra only has 1 in that trait (would take 6 ranged black counters?

If they are not limited, how do you guys keep track of the number of balck dice (paper, stand in counters, etc.)

The intent is for all things to be limited by tokens available. I believe there is an answered question in the list at the top of the forums regarding that. Obviously you can houserule it, but it does make the party selection phase/training pip selections a bit more important if you leave the intended resource limit in effect.
