Just a thought

I have seen some posts on here that are rumors and speculation about ships larger than the Falcon and Slave 1. The only thing I ask is how would they work in this game?

I mean this is a game of space dogfighting….with the pilot being the main piece not the ship. If they added a capitol size ship like a frigate, Corellian corvette, or a Gladiator class Star Destroyer need multiple pilots and crew to function. Thus making them useless in a game of dogfighting.

Even if they made them for an add-on to the core game….the points for a game would have to be over 800 points to justify fielding one.

I can see adding capital ships, but not the way the fighters operate.

In the movies, the fighters move so fast the capital ships are essentially motionless. The ships would be more like terrain, something to avoid and shoot at. I can see the individual turrets being operated like motionless ships, but the ship itself would just stay put. Some of the fan-created scenarios work that way, and it seems to fit with the theme of the game.

While I like the idea. I don't know a lot of people that would want to pay $40+ for a capital ship that only acts as a set piece or is for scenarios.

Ohhhh no!!!! Not the capital ship debate again!!!

I don't even see them as miniatures. More like cardboard cutouts or something like that. The turrents might be done as miniatures, but not he ships themselves. Imagine a Nebulon-B sitting on your game surface. The darn thing would be what, two feet tall? With all the fighters running around at the very bottom? No thanks.

Now if the model was just the top half of the ship though…

The scale of the YT-1300 speaks pretty loudly to me that we most likely won't end up seeing ships much larger than that. At full scale, the Falcon is ( according to the Star Wars Wiki ) about 35 meters wide. This makes things like Corellian Corvettes ( which are 150 meters long ) seem pretty darned unlikely.

a Corvette is 22 inches long. A Gallofree is I believe about 12 inches long. in scale. and certainly doable. A Star Destoyer is 15 feet long and a bit crazy.

Death Star is about 2.3km. Totally doable.

We use a CR-90 (16" length - Hasbro 1997 toy/model). It sits stationary for scenario purposes. Now this model is 6" less in length that the correct scale of 22". I do not think capital ships roaming the field would really work well.

The Rogue Shadow at around 9.5 inches (to scale) from The Force Unleashed Video Games would be a nice addition to this game. It could introduce Cloaking/Sith to the game.
