Han + Gunner

By nimdabew, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I was trying to explain to a bunch of other players at a tournament why Han gets to re-roll the gunner roll, but was overruled by the TO I believe saying Han wasn't doing the attack, it was the gunner and so doesn't get the Han special ability. Can someone tell me why, in rules terms, why the gunner attack gets Hans reroll just so I can get it straight?

I'm pretty sure the text says YOU may reroll all available dice, with the YOU being the active ship.

I do not have the rule book in front of me, but I believe Han can roll again with the gunner. I agree that 'you' in the gunner card refers to the ship, which is covered by Han's ability. Another arguement I would make is if Han is not making the attack, can you use focus or target lock? These abilities are all assigned to the ship. Not sure if that is 'rule answer' enough or not.

This is what happens when people interpret rules by fluff, rather than what the rules say. :(

Jetsetter is exactly right - the gunner allows the active ship to make a second attack. The attack is not actually coming from the gunner, it's coming from the ship, and any and all effects and abilities will still apply - Han, Kath, Marksmanship, Weapon Malfunction, etc.

If the attack is coming from the ship then would not for example blinded pilot would stop both han and gunner attacks?

Just reading through a few post/ forums that said different.

That gunner is seperate but han can stil roll for any attack from his ship, hence while han is blinded the gunner can see.

You can not try to apply "Fluff" logic as rules in games.

Blinded Pilot says the next time you attack you roll no attack dice. Therefore the attack will be gaurenteed to not hit. The miss triggers the Gunner ability. You've already satisfied the Blinded Pilot text with the first attack, the Gunner is a seperate attack from the same ship/
