Challenge Resolution - Passives and Titles

By HastAttack, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

This is similar to the other thread going … though it might be simpler to have a new question though

We had a game situation where I had 12 power and my oponent had 14 power - a melee game

My oponent has attached a copy of Blood Debt on my house card

Attach to an opponent's House card.
Attached House card gains: "Characters you control gain stealth during [intrigue] challenges."
After the owner of attached House card wins an [intrigue] challenge, claim 1 power for your House if you have more than 1 opponent.

My title opposed my oponent's title

I have Lannisport and Maester Creylen - both have responses allowing me to claim a power (but they won't ge triggered before someone wins the game)

I am first player

My attacking character has renown

What happens if I win an unpposed challenge?

I assume the following happens

Claim 1 power for unopposed challenge

Claim 1 power for opposing title

Claim 1 power for renown

Are all these passive effects which occur as part of the Claim or Challenge resolution

Where does the passive effect of Blood Debt kick in - i.e. Claim or Challenge steps

I'm certainly a bit confused as to which passives relate to the challenge as opposed to the claim step

thanks

1. Determine challenge winner

2. Implement challenge result(claim)

3. Claim power for unopposed.

4. Claim power for renown.

5. Resolve passive effects. Conflicting passive effects happen in the order determined by the first player. Claiming power to win the game suffices.

Power for Blood Debt and Oppose Titles are passive effects.

There is no passive step between claim, unopposed, and renown. You resolve all of these before even looking at passive effects. All passive effects happen in step 5 after Renown.

The bit I was worrying about relates to the details MDC273 posted re Timing For Response vs Claim

1) Determine Winner

i) Determine Winner initiates

ii) Cancel/Save responses to determination of winner (this is where True Power is played)

iii) Winner is determined

vi) Passives that resolve after determination of winner resolve

2) Claim

i) Claim initiates

ii) Cancel/Save responses to claim (this is where you save individual characters from dying to claim, it is also where Red Vengeance triggers)

iii) Claim resolves and all cards in play related to claim go Moribund (this includes attachments and initiates a separate Save/Cancel window for attachments that go Moribund)

vi) Passives that resolve after claim resolve

There seems to be two sets of passives to deal with and I wasn't sure how you identify whether a passive is part of the challenge resolution or claim

This seems to be between step 1 and 2 of Bomb's breakdown - so not between claim, unopposed and renown but before it

Blood Debt strikes me as being a passive resulting from determining the challenge winner (I don't want it to be so!)

Har har! No one called me on that, for shame. Now people will find that… What the heck thread was that?

Ok, so apparently the challenges framework is totally borked. I'll go update that thread if I can find it. It should be:

1) Determine winner of challenge

i) Determine winner initiates

ii) Save/Cancel responses to determination of winner

iii) Determine winner resolves

2) Challenge result is implemented

i) challenge result initiates

ii) Save/Cancel responses (including save from claim)

iii) challenge result resolves

3) Reward for unopposed

i) Reward for unopposed initiates

ii) Save/Cancels

iii) Reward for unopposed resolves

4) Renown

i) Renown initiates

ii) Save/Cancels

iii) Renown resolves

5) Passives

6) Responses

So back to your original question, Blood Debt kicks in at 5, after Unopposed and Renown. Now to go find and fix that other one…

Perfecto - thanks for the detailed breakdown
