PLASTIC SLEEVES FOR ADVENTURE CARDS?

By adjogi, in Talisman

I have been trying to find which plastic sleeves to get for revised 4th edition adventure/spell cards etc. However, i have been getting lots of different answers!

Does anyone know which plastic sleeves i should be purchasing?

Thanks in advance for the time and effort to answer this…

Has anyone done this? How many sleeves did you need? And how big did it make the deck?

There are a few pics of some of the sleeves that are available of Talisman Island - http://www.talismanisland.com/storage_cardsleeves.htm - I've since unsleeved my main set, but have sleeved up the base games of Talisman and Relic with FFG small sleeves and TBG large sleeves.

It seems the FFS01 cards are out of stock everywhere!

Does anyone have experience with the Mayday Mini Sleeves? Are they any good and would you recommend them?

They seem to be alot cheaper but not sure about the quality…

If you can get hold of Arcane Tinmen sleeves, they work perfect for FFG stuff, hell, they even come in packs of 100 vs FFG's 50, so don't need as many packs. You want the Mini sleeves.

I was thinking about sleeving all the cards. I have all the expansions. And it would cost a lot to sleeve them all. I might buy a few packs every other month. Rather than take the whole cost at once.

I sleeved my collection with these:

I have had no problems, and they are working great!

It states on the site that these will not work for Talisman and Expansions?? But you are saying they worked for you?

Yes, I just double checked. These are what I am using. If you read around you will hear people saying they are inconsistent in their cuts. This is true. Some sleeves are slightly longer. But after hundreds of sleeves all but 1 or 2 did not fit. And none of the sleeves are too short, but some are too long.

I believe they are having a sale, I just bought some on this sale a week ago and they came in. But not sure if the sale is still running.

If inconsistent cuts bother you, don't get these. There are already issues with using sleeves as it is, and if those issues bother you, this may as well.

If you like sleeves but insist on quality sleeves go elsewhere.

If I find and own enough sleeves that are cut well, I may replace the bad cut ones. It bothers me a little.

ive never had a problem with the mayday games sleeves, i use them for all talisman game and my entire munchkin collection as well.

I bought 300 Ultra Pro's for my Talisman collection

http://www.boardgamecity.com/games/UltraProBoardGameSleeve41x63.php

because thats all the supplier had left in stock, fitted like a gloove and nice firm plastic. Then I found out about the cheaper Mayday ones and bought them for the rest, but imediatley regreted it, they are flimsy to the touch and I found that the cards slipped out of them if not handled with care, I've since gone back and got rid of the mayday sleeves and bought Ultr pro's for the rest of my cards. They are a good bit more expensive but totally worth it in my opinion.

UPDATE on this topic:

After much effort I ended up un-sleeving all my Adventure Cards ! What an annoyance...cards slipping and sliding all over the place. I do still sleeve the Character Cards/Alternate Endings which works out fine but the Adventure Cards will have to remain as they are.

Others have done the same, and unsleeved their game. But it has also been noted that after several game plays they lose some of their slipperiness.

I sleeve all my adventure cards and just have them all face down jumbled in the box lid to draw from. If a player needs to deck peak, then a mini-deck can be formed and "re-loaded" from the main deck when needed.

I use sticky-backed plastic for the Character and ending cards, carefully stuck to each side then the edges trimmed down to size.

Indeed after several games, the sleeves become non slippery.

It's not so much of a problem if you use the card feeders from the likes of e-Raptor, I use two of the tall 5 bay ones for the main decks and the 3 of the lower 6 bay ones for the smaller card sets and everything remain neat and tidy.

I have been trying to get the Character sized sleeves from the Thai Boargame group, but with no success. Are there any other alternatives people know of? Thanks!

I researched this and found none in the entire universe. However there are several ways to contact them. And I recently sent them a message cause I need more. I have not heard back yet.

I should say tho, I did find some photo sleeves which fit perfectly on 3 sides and are long on the 4th side. They could be trimmed to fit well. I will be doing this if I can't get any more.

Can you post the info on the photo sleeves (brand, size, where you got them, etc.)? Thanks in advance!!!

I have not checked into these, but here is 1 supposed option:

But I have used Ultra Pro 4 x 6 Soft Sleeves

http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Soft-Sleeves-100/dp/B002H0PXCG

But I found a great deal on Ebay. But I have only used 2 of these for Talisman as I had enough of the good ones for everything else. I have used these for Heroes Incorporated which has the same size cards. Once again, they are too long on 1 side which can be trimmed.

Are you in Aus? I was planning on ordering some more from there soon.
