New Player Confused About Playable Races

By netgeist, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Hello,

I just purchased the core game and am interested in also planning what to purchase next. I wanted to narrow down my options by focusing on certain races but I am having a tough time finding a list the shows all playable races. Maybe I am using the wrong search terms….but so far, no luck.

Which races are represented in the game as fully playable races versus cards that complement other decks?

Also…what is the best purchasing strategy to concentrate on certain races. For example, if I wanted to play all Skaven, all Vampire Counts or all Wood Elf decks, how would I get the cards? Only by buying each expansion?

Thanks in advance for your help and patience,

Fully playable:

Empire, Dwarves, High Elves, Dark Elves, Chaos, Orcs

There is enough cards to make a solid neutral deck of 50 cards, but it may not be competitive:

Lizardmen, Skaven, Undead(Vampire Counts)

There are splashes of the following:

Wood Elves, Bretonnia

As for what to buy. Assault on Ulthuan will give you more High Elves and Dark Elves. March of the Damned will give you Lizardmen and Vampire Counts. The first 6 battle packs has a lot of skaven. I'd look at deckbox.org and see what kind of races you want to work with and which cycles you need to buy.

That is the downside of this game. I have been playing since the beginning, so I have every card. As the card base grows, so does the price. I still recommend it over any CCG though.

Wood Elves have enough for their own deck as well.

Yes, you can make a full 50 card wood-elf only deck, but unlike Undead, Skaven, and Lizardmen, it will be very difficult to win with it. They were the last onto the scene of the four races mentioned, and have a few less cards, some of their main mechanics are expensive to utilize in both cards and resources, and make it very possible to deck yourself. Such a deck can win, but it will be harder to do, and require full concentration; small errors playing other kinds of decks won't be as costly as they will be playing an all wood-elf (or all neutral wood-elf) deck. Just as the Corruption Cycle really introduced Skaven to the game with a lot of Skaven cards, The Moorsleib Cycle really introduced wood-elves into the game with a lot of wood-elf cards.

Thanks for the information. Until you mentioned it, I didn't know that Deckbox had Invasion cards. That's a great way to find out more.

Your help is appreciated.

I apologise for maybe a stupid question but I'am a new not only to warhammer invasion but to a live card games in general, so if I understand correctly every expansion adds a little bit to every rase, or there are a specific expansions that add cards to a certain race only?

Iam going to buy the core set and the "Assault on Ulthuan" expansion, what else would you suggest to buy to a newbie like me just to expand every rase a little bit? Should I just go for the "Legends" expansion (as I understood it adds cards to every race) and not bother about smaller expansions?

Definitely pick up the big expansions (Assault on Ulthuan, March of the Damned, Legends) when and if you can. Then I would suggest using a tool like deckbox.org (mentioned above) to see the cards in all of the different sets. Find out which cards you like for the different races and buy those battle packs.
