Wounds, Strain and Wookie

By LukeZZ, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Does anyone find strange that it's easier to bring down a Wookie with weapons that does stun damage than weapons that does standard damage?

I don't know, it seems to make sense to me.

Wookiees are among the strongest and toughest sentient species in the galaxy. It'd be far safer to stun one from a distance than to try to best it in combat in my opinion.

Yes, but I think that a Wookie would be more resistent to stunt than a human…

Why would you think that? Yes, they are supposed to be tough and shrug off pain, but that doesn't mean their neural pathways are less susceptible to stun effects from stuncuffs or a blaster set to stun.

Well in one sense they are. They start with a higher Brawn and, therefore, a higher soak. They will, on average, take one point less in strain damage on a hit than your standard human, all things being equal. Average human starts with 12 strain and 2 soak and the average wookie starts with 9 strain and 3 soak. A basic hit from a blaster pistol is 7 points of strain damage on stun setting. It takes 3 hits for each one to go down, on average. So they are both about the same for going down.

Yes, but they are more vulnerable (than humans) to Stun weapons (not Stun Damage weapons), since they have fewer strain.

Maybe that concern of mine is derived from the fact that Strain represents both Mental Strain (Stress) and Physical Strain (Fatigue). In Warhammer FRP 3rd those 2 values where separated.

Background wise Wookies are actually meant to have a bit of a problem stun weapon wise. Not necessarily more susceptible to being stunned, but they can suffer lethal side effects which other species don't suffer from.

The only weapon, at this point, that is a stun weapon are the shock gloves. And the stun quality must be activated. All the other weapons do stun damage and are therefore susceptable to soak. Unless I missed something. Now they are more susceptable to talents inflicting strain damage, but also keep in mind that strain as a resource can be recovered by spending advantages. The potential is there for them to go down quicker, but I don't think it plays out that way often.

Still… that a Wookie will be put to KO quicker by hitting him with punches to non-vital areas (strain damage) then with punches to vital areas (wound damage) seems very odd to me…

And the worst thing is that by mixing punches to non-vital areas (strain) and punches to vital areas (wounds), it will take forever to bring down the Wookie…
