Which to me is simple no re rolls even Han.
But my opponent said that this only applied with the first attack, using a gunner to start a new attack then allowing for hans to re roll.

Gunner allows to start a new attack and is not a reroll of dice. Han's reroll ability could not be used with the gunners attack because Dark curses's ability bars rerolling of dice at any time on any attack.
Your friend is incorrect in applying Han's reroll ability on the gunner's attack vs Dark Curse.
In short,
Gunner works as it is a new attack, Han's ability does not because it is a reroll.
