Regionals report - Vancouver BC April 27

By niceas, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hey all - so we played our regionals today at Strategy Games in Vancouver BC.

I'd been working on a two Firespray list (with howlrunner) but decided at the last minute to run 4 Rookie Pilots w/ Shield Upgrades because I really wasn't comfortable maneuvering the large ships around in the asteroid field. (I believe that this was Picasso's list). I didn't take any pictures, so this will be a relatively brief report.

We ended up playing four rounds (no cut).

My first game was against a fellow that I'd encountered during the Kessel Run. He was playing with Lando, Dutch, and Garvin, and was passing around target locks and focuses, along with additional actions from Lando. The initial exchange only saw Dutch, Lando, and my X-Wings exchange fire. Not a lot of damage was done by my side, and his initial attack stripped one of my rookies of shields. The game boiled down to me trying to shoot down Garvin, and him rolling enough evades to keep him in the game. Unfortunately, it came down to a single X-Wing against Lando, and that didn't work out to well.

Result - Loss (0-1)

My second game was against another Falcon - this time Lando (again) and Wedge, loaded to the nines. I crossed from the middle of the board and managed to hit him from the side - first round of fire at range three stripped the falcon of shields, second round reduced the Falcon to 1 hull. Ultimately if I remember correctly it was two X-Wings that survived after destroying Wedge.

Result - Win (1-1)

My third game was against a fellow playing with three bounty hunters. Now - I've had bad luck before, but this was rediculous. First round of fire, I lost an X-Wing, and failed to break the shields on the first BH. Second round of fire I lost a second X-Wing, and STILL hadn't managed to break through his shields. The game, needless to say, went downhill fast. My opponent was rolling all hits, and I couldn't roll an evade - or a hit! - to save my life. Our game was over so fast we had time to play a second, in which I squeeked out a victory - but he had already won the round :)

Result - Loss (1-2)

My fourth game was against a player playing Biggs, Wedge, and Luke, again loaded with all sorts of extras. My dice - which had forsaken me completely the previous round - woke up with a vengeance. During the initial pass, I destroyed Biggs and stripped Wedge of shields. The second pass saw the destruction of Wedge (and the loss of a Rookie), and then it the route was on. I ultimately chased down the fleeing Luke for the win.

Result - Win (2-2)

Ultimately I had a good time - I really enjoy this game, win or lose. The victor was playing a Han Shoots First list (Han: Chewbacca, Gunner, Marksmanship; two Rookie Pilots). 3/4 of the players had at least one Falcon or Firespray.

Hey. Mark

this is Mike (fellow with the 3 firesprays)

this was indeed a fun day, and my intention was to surprise everyone with a 3 firespray build (i think it worked)

and seeing as you already started one (you beat me to it) i will add mine

round 1, was against the han shoots first list including han solo with gunner and marksman and 2 rookie pilots (this guy made the regional win for our local area).. and this was my extreme bad luck, where i rolled average for hits and couldn't roll an evade all game, meanwhile he dodged absolutely everything i threw at him and finally managed to down one x-wing before losing my final firespray.

(0-1)

round 2 was vs a luke, wedge and biggs build completely suped up.. and ready to fight.. managed to down biggs in first wave of shots, followed by wedge and luke taking a while to die but eventually went down (**** you R2-D2), 0 ship losses for myself

(1-1)

round 3 was vs the OP here with his 4 X-wing build, each with an extra sheild.. a pretty solid list overall but like he stated, his dice did just not want to co-operate with him.. i rolled pretty good with my attack rolls this game and rolled average with my defence.. he unfortunately had the exact opposite luck.. managed to continuously focus fire down and x-wing each round of shots until he conceeded to three almost entirely full health firespray's vs his 1 x-wing (i would have done the same given his situation) 0 ship losses for myself here

(2-1)

round 4 was vs a list that consisted of Krassis with a HLC and Marksmanship, 2 Academy Ties, Winged Gundark and a Black Squadron Pilot.. initially i wanted to gun straight for his firespray and drop it quickly, but after some movement, branched one of his academy ties out of formation and interrupted my movement and caused my firesprays to clog up forcing my hand to shoot at the 2 tie's in the fire arcs and forced my hand to just take out all the little ships and save Krassis for later.. managed to pull off a modified win as the game went to time and still had Krassis (with about half health) and a single academy tie remaining .. 0 Ship losses for myself

(3-1)

over all i tied for 2nd place, and had a blast.. we all hope for the regional win, but only one comes out the victor, so next time i hope to take it home

overally am extremely satisfied at how the 3 firespray build turned out

I'm flying three Firesprays tomorrow in the first WI regional. I've been flying it a lot and am thinking I'm ready for anything. Falcon lists don't worry me.

it's so solid dude, 30 hp's with 3 shooters is nothing to snuff at.. they are (as one of the guys at the store today put it) essentially each an X-wing with another X-wing strapped to the back of it with the ability to evade

somebody on these forums mentioned the 3 bounty hunter list a few months ago (can't remember who, i'm sorry) and I and most people (i assume only because you never see any talk about it) put it off and put it out of their heads as firesprays didn't seem all that good at the time.. but 3 of them? man they're nuts

and if you fly them smart and take odd ball manuvers a lot of the time you have really good chances of spreading out the damage amongst the firesprays so that one doesn't get gunned down too fast

wow gr8 effort with the 2ns plcing. 3 firesprays eh!? cool.

It's a discusting list and I need to take a shower after I use it cause I feel so dirty and cheap.

The nice thing about the list is that you can swap one firespray out for a 33 point named pilot and it still works and now is more diverse.

Great reports all around guys.
