Hey all - so we played our regionals today at Strategy Games in Vancouver BC.
I'd been working on a two Firespray list (with howlrunner) but decided at the last minute to run 4 Rookie Pilots w/ Shield Upgrades because I really wasn't comfortable maneuvering the large ships around in the asteroid field. (I believe that this was Picasso's list). I didn't take any pictures, so this will be a relatively brief report.
We ended up playing four rounds (no cut).
My first game was against a fellow that I'd encountered during the Kessel Run. He was playing with Lando, Dutch, and Garvin, and was passing around target locks and focuses, along with additional actions from Lando. The initial exchange only saw Dutch, Lando, and my X-Wings exchange fire. Not a lot of damage was done by my side, and his initial attack stripped one of my rookies of shields. The game boiled down to me trying to shoot down Garvin, and him rolling enough evades to keep him in the game. Unfortunately, it came down to a single X-Wing against Lando, and that didn't work out to well.
Result - Loss (0-1)
My second game was against another Falcon - this time Lando (again) and Wedge, loaded to the nines. I crossed from the middle of the board and managed to hit him from the side - first round of fire at range three stripped the falcon of shields, second round reduced the Falcon to 1 hull. Ultimately if I remember correctly it was two X-Wings that survived after destroying Wedge.
Result - Win (1-1)
My third game was against a fellow playing with three bounty hunters. Now - I've had bad luck before, but this was rediculous. First round of fire, I lost an X-Wing, and failed to break the shields on the first BH. Second round of fire I lost a second X-Wing, and STILL hadn't managed to break through his shields. The game, needless to say, went downhill fast. My opponent was rolling all hits, and I couldn't roll an evade - or a hit! - to save my life. Our game was over so fast we had time to play a second, in which I squeeked out a victory - but he had already won the round ![]()
Result - Loss (1-2)
My fourth game was against a player playing Biggs, Wedge, and Luke, again loaded with all sorts of extras. My dice - which had forsaken me completely the previous round - woke up with a vengeance. During the initial pass, I destroyed Biggs and stripped Wedge of shields. The second pass saw the destruction of Wedge (and the loss of a Rookie), and then it the route was on. I ultimately chased down the fleeing Luke for the win.
Result - Win (2-2)
Ultimately I had a good time - I really enjoy this game, win or lose. The victor was playing a Han Shoots First list (Han: Chewbacca, Gunner, Marksmanship; two Rookie Pilots). 3/4 of the players had at least one Falcon or Firespray.
