Two Handed

By Khamul The Easterling, in Strategy and deck-building

So I played Two handed for the first time today. It was great! Anyways the first deck was Spirfindel, Strider, Frodo and second was Gimli, Legolas, Theodred. I beat Conflict at The Carrok quite easily. Since I'm new to two handed, I was wondering if that is pretty normal to beat a CatC two handed quite easily with that deck.

and what quests are way easier or way harder with two handed opposed to solo?

Thanks

Khamul

hey,

welcome to the 2 handed group! carrock is quite an easy quest two handed when you have some serious hitting power. i breezed it with my flight deck and hama/beorn/legolas …which has become my usual deck, at least for now..

as for quests,

hfg- harder i think than solo. theres just alot going on and alot of locations. the encounter deck can really line up some aweful draws

conflict- as you found out, easier :)

rhosgobel - not so sure, pretty luck based either way i think

emyn - easy with a spirit deck no matter how many players i think…though the more draws may mean you need a good few test of wills in play (and therefore a 2nd core set)

dead marshes- tried it today with the above decks…easy going, won in a few rounds no problem

return to mirkwood- i actually meant to revive that thread you had just to say what a great ques tthis is two handed compared to solo. as you know i hated solo, but i won it easily (and enjoyably) with two decks

the khazad dum quests are easier if you have some decent hitting power

i would say all of the dwarrowdelf quests are easier..i played through all but shadow and flame and won first time the other day on each one.

hiers of numenor….this really hits hard for more players i think….same with hobbit quests

Thanks Rich. :) I can now look forward to Return to Mirkwood. Those HoN quests sure seem tough from what I've heard. I wonder if the same difficulty will follow with the Blood of Numenor (Or whatever) cycle. It seems like soon lots of the Mirkwood and some of the Dwarrowdelf adventure packs will be so easy with the cards we keep getting. But I suppose as long as they keep switching themes for te cards( dwarf, gondor, eagle, ect.) that will keep the other adventure packs still a reasonable level to beat.

the new quests must really be alot harder. as i say i can win almost all of the quests before HoN first time two handed….alot are so easy its laughable. …i do hope that ffg address this and add some sort of card packs to boost up older quests…..though that is a long debated point of if / how such a thing would be possibe

i actually tried my first 3-handed game today, using paper for threat tracking (im getting a 2nd core set soon). i have to say i really enjoyed it, and would recommend trying it if you are ok having cards all over the floor/table :)

it was actually nice, after playing 2 years solo, to see so many of the cards in play at once. i ran an all leadership deck along side my other two…i really think this is where leadership shines..as a support deck. i had balin, aragorn, theodred. i really like balin, its nice to have a dwarf hero who stands alone as a great hero, without having to be in a dwarf deck

Yeah Balin is pretty good. I think he is one of the most balenced heroes. He isn't bad and he isn't real good.

For 3 handed, you better have a good chair with wheels to go back and forth between your 3 hands :) Is that what you do? Oh and what do you do with all 3 of your hands? I lay them next to each player card area and go back and forth holding and looking at them.

By the way have you beaten HoN 2 handed? I'm also really looking forward to what you say about Return to Mirkwood and HoN quests 3 handed if you are going to play some more games 3 handed.

Khamul

well, i have an old jigsaw mat thats quite large that i spread out over the floor in my living room. its the only way i can manage to play the game (and my partner doesnt mind)

i have never really used the set up style show in the rules book, i have the 3 heros in front of me, then above and to the left i have the player deck with my hand displayed below it and the discard next to it. then i have each 'player' next to one another so that the 1st player token passes to my left and all the way back round to the right clockwise when it gets to the end of my left hand side.

i have not beaten any HoN quests 2 handed. i have only won the 1st quest solo 1 handed and the other two not at all. very tough as i say but even harder two handed i believe. perhaps i shall try 3 handed, though i can imagine that being even worse
