Critical Hit Tables

By Kager, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello,

Are you still going to use the Critical Hit Tables (for blaster/melee or ship combat) found in the Beta even if it is not included in the core rulebook? reasons?

thanks!

It is possible we may see a more streamlined version in the actual release. The one in the beta has more potential to mess up your day, but I prefer simpler systems. I'll just wait to see though, as the epicness of a great critical hit is a great rpg moment.

I certainly am.

They just add more opportunity for narrative developments, especially the higher numbers. Having a player black out from intense pain, only to regain consciousness later to discover they've lost an arm adds so much more to the future of the character and the story than "You pass out and wake up fine 10 hours later" which is what i find occurs in games without rules for injuries/consequences.

It also helps to reduce the recklessness that can sometimes be inevitable with RPGs. Players are less likely to throw themselves at a very dangerous situation when they stand a chance of taking some long lasting negative effect out of it. Nothing scares them off more than the threat of a permanent -1 to their favourite characteristic.

Gotta love crit tables. <3

Unless they have a better alternative - and the one presented in the beginners game is not better in my book - I'll continue to use the beta tables. I also assume that those tables will be reproduced (altered or unaltered) in the core book.

Now, if they have a new critical system/solution I'll check it out, but I'll deal with that then. The current one is good enough in my opinion, of course some clarifications and stuff could be appreciated for some of the results, but its enjoyable and my players fear the critical hits. Which is a good thing.

Unless you know more than we do, I fully expect to see a critical hit table in the core rulebook.

Double post.
