Island Smuggler various interactions

By Grrhawk, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Island Smuggler - Response: Kneel Island Smuggler to cancel an effect that would move a card out of a player's dead or discard pile.

Many Powers Long Asleep - When revealed, put a holy crest character into play from your dead pile.

Melisandre's Scheme - Baratheon only. You may play Baratheon characters out of your discard pile during the marshalling phase as if they were in your hand.

Crawn Son of Calor - Marshalling: Kneel Crawn Son of Calor to choose 1 Clansman card in your discard pile. You may play that card as your next action as if it were in your hand

It seems clear to me that Island Smuggler can cancel something like Many Powers Long Asleep. And it seems unlikely that it would cancel Melisandre's Scheme, because that is not an effect that "would" move a card out of a dead or discard pile, but that may or may not be used for that. Or maybe Mel's Scheme just modifies the "play from hand" mechanic to include characters in the discard pile.

Would the Smuggler (who is not a Smuggler.) be able to cancel Crawn's ability? It doesn't directly move a card out of dead/discard, but the lasting effect it creates CAN. I guess that probably answers it, even the lasting effect has a "may" attached to it, so it doesn't meet the "would" requirement of Island Smuggler.

Any thoughts, corrections, comments?
