Rebel List question

By dvang, in X-Wing

I've been mulling over a Rebel List to try out.

Wedge

Luke

Chewbacca

That's 99 points.

I'm having difficulty deciding where that last point should go. As I see it, there are three good options

1) Millenium Falcon Title - Makes Chewie more durable by giving the Evade action

2) Veteran Instincts - Upgrading from Skill 5 to Skill 7 could be useful

3) Draw Their Fire on Chewie - To help the X-Wings, primarily Wedge, stay alive a little longer

Thoughts?

I'd go for the VI. Shooting before other ships is so important.

Thanks for the quick response. I agree, shooting first is important. For an increase of 7 to 9, or 1/2 to 3/4 I'd probably easily say yes.

However, going from 5 to 7 doesn't affect too many important ships.

Imperial =

NightBeast (5)

Winged Gundark (5)

Backstabber (6)

Fel's Wrath (5)

Krassis (5)

Rebel =

Biggs (5)

Garven (6)

Dutch (6)

Arvel (6)

Chewbacca (5)

Lando (7) ?

Backstabber is really the only one of worth for the Imperials to worry much about, perhaps maybe Krassis. Looking at the Rebels, there are some more common pilots like Dutch, Bigs, and Garven. I suppose, facing another YT with Chewbacca or potentially Lando (depending on who gets initiative).

Looking at the list above, is the skill increase for VI still worth it in your opinion?

Nothing beats the Millenium Falcon, IMO.

Being able to Evade and reduce damage by 1 every turn makes a big difference on that ship, becuase it usually takes a quite a few turns to get it to drop. If you evade 3 or 4 times (which is normal) you can really stretch the number of shots that big turret is getting.

Yes, I think you are missing something. I'd want to shoot before any pilot. In the mid game it could be the difference between one or two ships shooting at you.

IMO, the ONLY reason to fly a YT-1300 without the MF title is if you're flying more than one YT-1300. That ship will drop much faster than you would like if you can't eavde. How about this option:

Wedge +Swarm Tactics (31)

Garven (26)

Chewbacca + MF (43)

That way you can use Wedge to promote Garven up to 9 during combat. Garven fires first, and drops a focus on Chewie (who took an evade) or on a Wedge (who took a TL) for a REALLY devastating attack. That gives you 2 pilots firing at 9 and Chewie still getting his evade.

Some interesting ideas.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that if someone is shooting at Chewie then they aren't shooting at Wedge. Chewie, even without Evade, is pretty durable for at least a few turns of concentrated firing. Personally, I would expect people to be concentrating on Wedge as much as they can initially. Similar to how, as a Rebel, you typically want to concentrate on Howlrunner first. My concern was that Wedge might be too vulnerable, hence why I was considering Draw Their Fire to pull some expected hits off of Wedge.

I like Luke, as he is generally very durable.

I do think the possibility/combo of Garven is interesting. One of the challenges being, keeping all three ships close enough to each other without running into one another.

I tried the list with Draw Their Fire tonight against an 8-academy swarm and dominated them handily, although that was partly because Wedge had hot dice and couldn't seem to roll fewer than 3 hits (granted, sometimes after using TL). Unfortunately, it didn't really test Draw Their Fire. Also, facing 8x Academy ties, VI wouldn't have mattered at all. MF would have been useful, though, as my opponent did end up shooting a lot at Chewie due to the way our maneuvering worked out.

Thanks for the input/discussion all.

a similar list interests me.

* chewie with draw the fire

* biggs with stealth device

* wedge

chewie and biggs can pretty much cover for wedge.
