How about a shipthat has very weak base stats, has a low point cost, but is highly modifiable. Take a Lambda for example that has 2 attack, 1 defense, 2 hull, 2 shield and cost about 20 pts give or take. It flies about like a y-wing. But it has an upgrade bar that allows you to put just about whatever you want on it. Throw in some Title cards or modification cards that allow you to increase its base stats and/or movement. It gives you an option to pretty much make the ship whatever you want it to be.
Then maybe some elite pilots that have abilities that allow you to reduce the point cost of some uprgrades by 1, such as misiles, mines, torps. Or an ability that allows you to not be required to reveal what upgrades you've take unitl you use them in combat, although you would have to reveal the total point value of the ship. The ship would be kind of a sleeper and would leave your opponent guessing what kind of damage it could do.
You could use this ship as cheap, weak, canon fodder, or pimp your ride to the max and make it a real beast, or anything in between.
